Why do people wait 45+ minutes to eat at Sammy's?

I enjoy Sammy's and have no problem with the place, but there is not a thing on that menu I'd wait that long to eat. It just always amazes me when I see the lines there on the weekends.

For the past decade, they are consistently the first restaurant to serve hot, fresh boiled crawfish in the early season.

Why do people wait 45 min to eat at sammys and pay about $5.60 a lb for crawfish? People don't understand there are other choices maybe?
Its basically it for decent food in prairieville... We went the other night b/c my FIL is scared to eat at any place that doesn't have raw or grilled oysters and gumbo on the menu. it was 30min, grabbed a beer and sat. But, at $100 for food/drinks I could pick some better options if allowed... That place gets slammed though.

I won't wait that long anywhere. I won't wait 30 minutes. Too many choices available for that.

Easy, Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw like it and everyone leaves with a styro box. I really don't care for pager restaurants, even if locally owned. I RARELY will wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table.

Agreed. Living in Nola, I refuse to wait in line for ANY restaurant. Just too many other places that are great you can get in right away. People who wait an hour plus for places like Rum House or Surreys need their fricking heads examined.

Everywhere Friday night looked insane. Even restaurants that aren't usually packed were packed. I went to Fresh Market around 8 or so, and even the little random Mexican joints on the way had full lots.

Anyway, I agree with OP. I never get it either. I took Highland to get to Fresh Market and I was stopped in the middle of Highland for several minutes with people trying to turn into the parking lot but they coudln't because there were cars backing all the way out of the lot due to no available parking.

If I couldn't even get into the parking lot of a restaurant I planned to eat at, I wouldn't even turn in. I'd keep driving.

If you're killing an hour dining out anyway, does a little drive even really matter?

My parents live in Central, and my mom is so sick of Sammy's.. but it never fails when her and her girlfriends go out to dinner, they choose to go there because they refuse to leave Central due to "traffic"..

I'm like.. Mom.. You're not picking up to-go. Why does it HAVE to be within a 5 mile radius?

3 reasons I can think of. Fried Mozzerella sticks, prime rib poboy, white chocolate bread pudding. When i was in college you could also go to see some pretty damn good looking girls running around but the staff last few times i went was below average.

I've asked that many times here, and I actually like most of their product..

But, come on, I don't want to stand on a crowded porch in 100* La summer heat waiting 45 minutes..not even for a free Ruth Chris or Fleming's filet.

Sammy's is a gold mine. The prime rib poboy is legit to say the least. The folks waiting at the Prairieville location a few Saturdays ago blew my mind. They had traffic on Airline held up for people sitting there waiting to turn in. We placed our order to go, thankfully.

If I had to wait I would no doubt keep driving, and I eat there pretty often.

In Pville, maybe central too, there is an aversion to driving 15-20 minutes to other establishments.

However, not sure what else there is to choose in that price point that is worth driving over waiting. (Consider 40 minutes of driving round trip)
