Downloading a game vs buying the hard copy

In this day and age, it's starting to seem like a no brainer to download games instead of buying hard copies. There's plenty of positives:
No going to the store
No waiting on shipping
Most likely no tax paid
Get the game instantly
Always have it in your library
But...since I just went trough this dilemma with a couple of games, I'm wondering what the consensus is. Because having a hard copy has it's benefits as well...such as:
Having a hard copy in case anythjng ever goes wrong with your system/account
Ability to trade it in and get at least half your money back, mostly this.
What do you say? Honestly the only thing holding me back from saying digital outright is not being able to trade it in AND still having to pay full price for it. If each system moved to a more Steam/Amazon approach where games go on sale or are cheaper for just the download, Id probably say that hands down.

With these huge fricking games, I'd like the physical copy.

I think you may have some sort of waiver to allow a re-download if you can prove something happened with your system? Usually you can change ownership at least once to a new console given a certain circumstance. Maybe not though. I am unsure about xbox one. Just going by 360

The thing I would most love about digital is not having to get up and change disc going between games (may be lazy) but it's super convenient.. Especially since the xbox is voice activated.

Trade in and get half your money back? Is there even a gif to express the lulz in that statement?
Just buy a pc and download stuff from steam. I did it. It's supercool

Hard copy for sure. Unless you're that careless or just have $60 to throw around like that then scratching shouldn't be a problem. Say your system goes down then you're out of luck. With a hard copy, can easily sell or trade in, let a friend borrow or bring it back for a refund if you don't like the game.

I traded in Madden 25 and COD Ghosts when I picked up Titanfall. Gamestop gave me $32.50 for each.
I bought Madden for $48 and COD for $50 new from Amazon.

For PC, download it. For PS4/PS3, I love getting the physical disk. There's something exciting about it. Though I've downloaded a fair amount recently just because the nearest store is 25 miles away.

Well, thanks for keeping me going back and forth
And yeah Gamestop usually at least gives you around 25-30$ back for relatively new games. Honestly, that's the biggest factor for me in gettin the hard copy.
Although, having a digital copy, where if two years from now I want to play it again, I can. Because there's been plenty of games where a few weeks after I'm like man, wish I could still have that. Killzone is a good example. The multiplayer was a blast, but there just wasn't a ton of depth to it. I traded it in a month or so ago and I wouldn't mind playing it again. But..I can't.

well maybe the game itself should help sway your decision. if it's a game you know you are going to have around a while i think i would go digital.

Ummm..no you aren't.
It is linked to your account. You can download and play any digital game you have purchased on Xbone, PS4, Steam, 360, Wii, PS3, etc on any system as long as you log into your account for that system.

I go physical when given the option (except PC). I just like case art and holding something in my hand.

Normally I'd like a physical copy...but after my SSB Brawl disc inexplicably stopped working one day, with not a single scratch on the disc, having a digital copy might help with not having to buy the same game twice.

It's not having to waste space on HDD and worry about downloading/storage management.
It's nice to have the physical product. I don't sell or trade-in things, so I've got a nice collection on my shelves. I like to let it grow.

A truly digital copy should allow you to make your own physical copy if you so choose. And vice-versa. But that will never happen.

I really don't see the point on sports games when you will get nothing back for it if its digital when its time to upgrade to next years version.
