Seriously, how the frick can he rule a grounder straight to Bregman that was botched a hit?

I've always wondered how that guy, of all people, ended up with the job.

Absolutely terrible call. Especially in that circumstance. Was he not watching the play? So much for home cooking.

the wild pitch ruling on UGA's pitcher last night was pretty crazy, too

There have been many questionable rulings in the past, but I don't disagree with this call (unpopular opinion). All or nothing plays are generally ruled hits when the defender doesn't come up with the ball. With Bregman charging a slow hit ball, the runner would be safe without a flawless pick and fire.

No, that was home cooking. He was looking out for Bregman

The only reason he had to charge, was because he misread it. He initially took a step back and had he fielded it cleanly, the runner was still a long way from first.

He charges a ton though. All of them aren't all or nothing. Tonight's was borderline and in that situation, you keep the no-no going.

I only saw the play live, no replay which the official scorer has the benefit of, but my initial reaction was hit. I wouldn't call that play "ordinary effort" had it been made.

Because all positions at LSU ooze cronyism.

It was relatively routine in that the ball was hit hard enough that it got to the dirt and it's not like Bregman had to dive for it.

You say this like Lazare is a shill for LSU.

Highlights are up on GZ, but skips over that play. Full and condensed games should be up soon. I'd like to take another look at it since I seem to be the only one that ruled the same as Lazare on this one.

I was at the game, and only saw it live, but LSU players have been given hits on the same types of plays. If he is consistent, and not a homer, he calls it a hit.

He got cute and tried to short-hop it.

Not that it matters, since Poche ended up giving up 2 more hits. But if I'm up there scoring, that was an E6.

You are not alone. That was a hit all the way. And it isn't really close. All the arse-hurt know-it-alls in here would be pissed if the LSU batter didn't get a hit on a similar play. He has access to replay and I know for a fact if it were even borderline, Bryan would have kept the no-hitter alive.

BOOOO to Cox...while all this was going on, they had Rantz sucking the K-Creature's dick for 5 minutes and basically were ignoring the play on the field. Would have loved to hear Rollins and McDonald discuss the play.

I could sit here and argue if it was an error or a hit all day and we could go home agreeing to disagree, but you're flat our wrong that it wasn't close.

full game is up on geaux zone. Play it at 76:20 for those who want to look. Man it's a close one, but I will stick with my original ruling. It was all or nothing and a tough pick, transfer, and throw would have been required to get him at first. I wouldn't be offended if the ruling went the other way though.
