'06 Toyota Tacoma - fan only works on high; is it the fan motor or switch? Worked yesterday not today.

To eliminate some responses:
6 cyl
2WD
4 door
it's silver
149K miles
No sex involved when it stopped working
No pics
No gif

there is an inline resistor that controls non high speeds. Replace it and you are good to go.

Older Toyotas has a coil-type blower register. The low and medium speed coils would go bad on them only allowing the the blower to work on high speed.

I thought they had switched to the ceramic style resistors by that model year but I could be wrong. Even if it's ceramic, it's possible it's going bad and causing your problem.

Here's what the older style resistor looks like.

They're mounted on the side of the blower housing. The coils and all are inside the blower so all you'll see is the plug side of the resistor.

Did a little research... Here's a pic of the resistor for your model Tacoma...

I'd check this first based upon your description of what's happening.

It's the blower motor resistor.

Part #87138-04050 $33.00

If the connector is burned you also need part #82141-04m40 $18.00

switch.

Strange issue to have.

I would highly suggest all that have tacoma go to Tacoma forums, and they have diy and advice on the trucks.

It's the resistor on the fan switch. Mine did same thing. Ordered thirty dollar part and watched YouTube video on how to replace it
