Public school students of color get more punishment and less access to veteran teachers than their white peers, according to surveys released Friday by the U.S. Education Department that include data from every U.S. school district.

maybe veteran teachers don't want to work at the schools were the students are mostly minorities? Maybe whites (on average) behave better in the classroom?

Always nice to see our tax dollars being well spent.
I am in D.C. right now ... can't wait to get the frick out of here.

How is it proof of racism that more black kids are disciplined?
Someone explain to me what that really means?

Because people like this think everything occurs in a vacuum, that all kids behave equally and thus minorities receiving more discipline is because of skin color only.
Any assertion that minorities misbehave more often than their majority counterparts is ignored and racist.

The "racism" claim is what is known in common lingo as a "lame-arse BS excuse."
It'd be like claiming that NBA Refs were racist if Bill Laimbeer got called for more technical fouls than Rick Mahorn.
(I really don't know ... perhaps Mahorn got more.)

Let's just kill all the white people.
It's time.
It's time.

Is there any specific info on the methodology of this study?

Minority students should not be disciplined, held to academic standards or required to attend these racist and oppressive institutions of white privilege.

Love this kind of shite.
I expect my man Jarvis Berry to have a victim article about this in the Times Picayune this Sunday.

The sad thing is, you could probably use the data and find the same correlation between kids from single parent homes vs two parent homes. You would probably be closer to the truth, too. But racism is more pc.

Because the fact that "daddy" was nothing more than a sperm-donor has nothing to do with it.

After observing and going through all the excuses for failure and the only reason for it is staring back at you in the mirror... It's time to deploy the race card!

Ironically, the source of the report is racially biased.

Did not read the study, but I have a question: is there anything in that study that indicates how much better minority students do when they do have access to veteran teachers?
Common sense would suggest that they should do better with better teachers, but as another poster pointed out, there are numerous studies which demonstrate that kids from single-parent households don't do as well as kids from two-parent homes. Since the vast majority of black kids now grow up in single-parent homes, I'm curious to know whether having a veteran teacher makes one lick of difference.

There is a very logical reason for this. Schools all employ some form of 'tracking'. They have different names but essentially they are:
Basic: functional illiterates
General Population: largest number of students
Gifted: high IQ
The vast majority of 'Basic' students at an integrated school are black.
The vast majority of 'Gifted' are white.
The best/more experienced teachers are not assigned 'Basic' because they cannot use their expertise in their subject.
For example. Let's say Mrs. Smith is the best English lit teacher in your school. She has a master's and did extensive research on Shakespeare.
If you assign Mrs. Smith to the Basic classes she will NEVER get to teach anything about Shakespeare. She will spend the entire year teaching the kids to read the sentence :
"See spot run."
It's a total waste. So, the less qualified teachers are assigned Basic.

Hmmmm....I have not read the study, but it's probably safe to go ahead and make this assumption...
When it comes to a study like this, it's necessary to prove your theory and conclusion by ISOLATING the variable you are trying to explain.
Did this study CONTROL the other variables to prove that it's skin color that causes disproportionate punishment?
If you can show me that two students (one white and one black) have the same discipline records and committed the same offense, but the black student received harsher discipline, then a study like this will have my undivided attention.

Good point.
