American Pale Ale is my go-to beer these days. The standard has been Sierra Nevada for a while, but I'm not so sure anymore. I have enjoyed Envie when I've made trips to New Orleans to get some but after trying it head-to-head against Shreveport's Great Raft Commotion, I have to say Commotion kicks Envie's arse.

Not to mention the can looks this good:

you don't think Sierra Nevada is the standard pale ale?

I don't think this thread was really necessary, but you'll get some good bites I'm sure. I've had plenty of Envie in my day. Each batch gets better and better.

I'm 20 miles away from my first commotion (hoping it's at my place), so I'll hold my personal judgement.

Highest selling? Yes.

Current craft standard? No.

I prefer envie, both are good beers though.

Saying one is much better than the other is foolish.

No Dale's in Louisiana. I do love it though.

That was a bit strong. They're both great beers. I have been very surprised how good the Great Raft offerings have been. Plenty of other small La. breweries have had issues at the onset.

I used to. North La. now, unfortunately.

ETA: who's the arse who downvoted this thread?

Disagree. Its been the pa standard for 20 plus years, doesnt mean its the best, but its the beer everyone puts their own pas up against.

I think it is. Dale's Pale Ale is awesome, but technically it should be an IPA since it is 65 IBUs and 6.5%. Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale is 38 IBUs and 5.5%.

then what is?

I think it is easily the standard. It's not my favorite, but that's not the question here.

*coughtinroofcough*

I was at great raft last month and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, they only had their 3 flagships on tap at the time.

My 30th B-day party was at great raft brewery last week. Several of there beers are very good. The Commotion and Born in a Barn are my favorites.

Oh I was hoping you were down here with the great raft.

I think the down vote comes from all you TX folks coming out the woodwork pimping the crap out of Great Raft. I'm glad you guys have something to be proud of but the brake is the petal on the left. Pump it.

I am just glad we can have these conversations now. Louisiana is climbing out of the pit of mediocrity.
