Paw was such a badass. Yet he still taught his boy how to be generous and honest. An all time great. Wonder what happened to his maw.

There was an early episode that addressed this. Paw blamed the maw's paw for some reason and hated maw's paw. Some bad guys rode in lookin to kill maw's paw and boy talks paw into saving maw's paw's life. Then the story came out about just how she died, but I can't rightly recollect what it was.
Yep, Lucas McCain was a badass.

I've never fired one of those rifles, but wouldn't firing it like that up against his thigh left it pretty dang bruised?

I've never fired one either but my father owns one. I'll dig up a pic

Just came back to post that.
Couldn't do shite for smallpox, anyway.

Sam Gibbs. From episode #167 "Old Man Running", Margaret McCain's father Sam Gibbs had a chance to save her but he used the money to buy alcohol instead of medicine. Lucas never forgave him, but Mark did.
Couldn't do shite for smallpox, anyway.
