So I'm most likely going to be moving to New Orleans here in a few months and am starting to look around at places.

Where are some good areas to live?

Uptown? MidCity? Lakeview? Metarie?

How old? Married? kids? What's the most important stuff you look for in a neighborhood?

23. No wife, No kids. I want to be comfortable but also want to enjoy the "city life" I guess you could say? I'll be in grad school though.

Are you married? Do you have kids? Do you care about roommates?

OK, definitely live Uptown or Mid City.

Both areas can be "patchy", especially Mid City, so just make sure you really know the surroundings and general location of a place before you take the plunge.

For example, areas north (lakeside) of St. Charles or blocks closer to Tchoupitoulas are typically what you want to avoid Uptown, with some obvious exceptions.

I'm not as familiar with Mid City, but there are some awesome, awesome areas to live there. And some highly undesirable areas. Just be mindful of your surroundings.

Uptown is the best. The Broadmoor/Fountainbleu area is pretty sweet location wise and affordable. The Bywater/Marigny is fun but out of the way. Warehouse District is awesome but expensive. Lakeview has a suburban feel that seems like nothing of what you're looking for.

Can be pretty pricey for a 23 year old.
