Lets get started...

Oooohhhhh my goodness this tape is fricking amazing. Kanye's latest new school artist signed to G.O.O.D. Music, CyHi is from Flowery Branch, Ga. This Mixtape is a perfect example why, like Dr. Dre has realized and executed in his older age, Kanye needs to stick to strictly producing for his young artists. He was the executive producer on this and while he didn't craft any beats (its actually more than OK) he has a perfect ear and picked each beat out precisely and exquisitely. The artist on this group of beats could've been Twista, or Kendrick Lamar, or Jay-Z and it could've been an album and it would be considered a classic with like say Jay. That is seriously how good these beats are OMG! I want the instrumental tape of it. Kanye just when I think you've gone off the deep end man you somehow craft a masterpiece like this and even though it was for another artist he did his damn thing as Exec Producer. I seriously doubt this tape will have any competition for MT of the year and I'm saying this in damn March (MT released end of February). ONLY gripe I have (little one) is it should've been CyHi's debut album, but it makes me look forward to that and it sets a damn high bar for that album.

Tracks

1. Prelude - Cool idea, a student presenting a Black History Month presentation on CyHi leads us into the next track

2. Intro (Black Hystori), Prod by Tec Beatz - Short track leaving you wanting to hear more from this beat. It's an opportunity for CyHi to allow listeners a glimpse into his style

3. Huey Ft. King Louie, Prod by Anthony Kilhoffer, M16, & Tec Beatz - Ridiculous beat and CyHi brings it with his flow my goodness. This is the type intricate beat I really like from M16. KL is a little too raw for this polished beat but its good to hear a verse from him (he uses his ATL roots this whole tape, another reason I wish it was his debut album because it has a lot of local Southern flavor it would've been good to see it as an album)

4. Mandela, Prod by Sekou Muhammed & Tec Beatz - Holy moly CyHi really shows his lyrical chops on this nasty beat and its a perfect hook to flow with the beat and a innovative way to say you're on your way up in the hip hop game but the game needs a revolution and the threat of prison is always there for standing on the line. What a damn track.

5. Napoleon, Prod by M16 - This one is a more mellow beat that CyHi really goes in on. He just rides this beat all the way through delivering punch line after punch line giving lines of retrospect in between. More of a track to show his lyrical skill on a more raw type less intricate beat. Not a bad track it fits in the flow after the 1st 2 amazing tracks even though its more chill.

6. Interlude - We go back to the classroom and get an explanation about the namesakes of the 1st 3 tracks and an explanation of the shift in focus on the tape.

7. Be Great, Prod by Tec Beatz & Anomaly - a very intricate beat that requires a totally different flow from CyHi. I like Anomaly and this sounds a lot like one of his beats. Much more of an introspective track into CyHi's own life. Again this track is a lot different and I don't mind it because it sort of gives me a break before the next track. I also love the Pac love in the intro to fit with the songs message.

8. Basquiat, Prod by Grizzly - Oh man...I really like this track as well. Like Mandela this hook and everything is extremely innovative referencing the late Jean-Micheal Basquiat who was an urban artist legendary in his own time but died at 27 and even makes several references (graffiti in German, etc) and again it shows CyHi's intelligence in crafting a them for a song and following all the way through. Every beat on this MT is an intricate one and this beat is no different it is another masterpiece crafted to perfection. Again still amazed with each track that this is a FREE MIXTAPE!

9. 3 16, Prod by M16 - Another ridiculous beat and an innovative hook using John 3:16 from the Bible to craft a sick hook. Another braggadocios track lyrically and it fits perfectly with the intricate beat. Another standout track.

(Continued)

10. Barry White, Prod by Million $ Mano - A classic Mano beat with a Big KRIT Southern R&B feel to it. CyHi crafts a story revolving around the crack epidemic and again his hook he uses and the wordplay really is his strength. Using the play on words with his songs intro voice and using the lyrics to spin it around the hook like "Go sell yourself some weed cause **** this shite can carry life, I'm here to Barry White" . An AMAZING track maybe the best one on this MT. With every track my hat goes off to CyHi.

11. Is It Me ft. Tate DuMonde, & Crystal Renee, Prod by Sekou Muhammed, Jeff Leahr, & Tec Beatz - This track is a lot more mellow beat with horns something that is reminiscent of a Rick Ross type beat and again CyHi does a nice job with a slower flow needed and again using his Ga connections with Tate on here who KILLS it and fits the style of this track. Only thing I felt this track was too short, wanted another from verse from CyHi I guess.

12. February 29th ft. Jon Connor & Zip K, Prod by Sekou Muhammed, Chris Tucker, & Tec Beatz - Another more smoth beat by Sekou but this one is a little more intricate and has a harder backbeat and a more complete track. Perfect features to flow on the style of the song with CyHi. This tape has so many standout tracks its ridiculous man.

13. Cydel Young, Prod by M16 & Anomaly - A nasty raw beat on this one with an old school feel to it. Sounds more like Anomaly likely with M16 scratching. Just some raw arse lyrics also man really great flow on this one. Don't get me wrong CyHi has some punches and damn sure has hooks but he may be his best with these type of retrospective flows he uses as messages.

14. Coretta, Prod by Tec Beatz & Jeff Leahr - One of the most intricate beats and another mellow masterpiece and he has a clear objective to tell a woman he is infatuated with. I'm not as crazy about his flow on this one, still impressive wordplay but oh man this beat is amazing.

15. Good Night ft. Marian Mereba, Prod by Watson the Great, Tec Beatz, Roark Bailey, & Aktual - Anyone who is an OutKast fan will really enjoy the flip of the SpottieOttieDopalicious beat to show his roots and craft a track around a beat crafted by ATL/GA royalty. I like this flow much better I think because its a little more introspective and storytelling than the previous track even though its a similar subject matter. The break at the end to as a sort of end to the storytelling into a dancehall beat was amazing as well...very well done.

16. Guitar Melody, Prod Tec Beatz - Another old school type banger beat by Tec. Again I also like his flow better on this track, it even has a Kanye feel to it and he rides the hell out of this beat using the same lyric to wrap around a faster back beat. Then during the 2nd verse that switch was ridiculous. Tec crafts awesome grimy beats regardless of what the song is about. All around an awesome track.

17. Interlude - We get a final word from the school theme to wrap it up

18. Black Pride ft. Miloh Smith & Kissielee, Prod by Jeff Leahr, Tec Beatz, & Space Jonze - The final track is a great outro track and again uses a very innovative hook to tie up the tape. This is the only beat that isn't really a standout, and it still isn't that bad, just more simple mellow feel but it still works well as the last track

Final Grade - A++

I've listened to this at least 4 times since a buddy of mine hipped me to it and I had no idea how amazing it would be and was extremely impressed. I look forward to many more projects and hopefully an album just as amazing in the near future. I usually don't post links but everyone who enjoys Hip Hop music should take some time out to listen to this one so I posted the free DL link

Y'all enjoy and DON'T SLEEP!!

Basquiat goes in.

Mixing "It takes two" by Rob Base and the piano sample from tha ethiopian cat (don't know his name) is insane.

He should have sold this one

Excellent use of the Maze sample on this one.

FYI thats the beat from "Keep Rising To The Top" by Doug E. Fresh. Knowing where the samples come from is a good way to explore older hip hop and music in general.

I'm glad someone else thinks this an outstanding mixtape. I told my boys about it and they replied with "who"

Finally getting around to checking this out.

The beats are fantastic. Extremely well-produced and fine-tuned, much more so than I've come to expect from "mixtapes." Nice variety too.

I haven't been impressed with Cyhi's rapping from the few random appearances on other people's stuff that I've heard. But, he's obviously got more skills and depth than I thought, as evidenced here.

Good stuff, Bucc.
