What are some movies that exceeded the amount of entertainment you assumed you would get because "they" said it sucked?

Dark Shadows- I found this movie to be hilarious. Johnny Depp was really funny. And like many movies, the antagonist makes the difference. The witch was really good and she and Depp played off of each other really well.

Jack Reacher- Thought it was great. Haven't read the book. Just enjoyed the movie for what it was.

John Carter- Been discussed here quite a bit.

Serenity - I thought the previews looked awful and it reminded me of a wannabe 5th Element knockoff with all the focus on River Tam kicking arse. Trumpeting that it was from the creator of Buffy also was a huge turn off as I at that time I had never watched the show since I assumed it was for tween girls.

Hell, the only reason I even saw it in theaters was b/c my girlfriend thought I wanted to see The Corpse Bride with me thinking the same about her. Once we got to the theater and realized that neither of us wanted to see that we asked the kid at the counter what he liked the most that was playing. Glad we did.

John Carter - another movie with a preview that completely turned me off. After seeing it on HBO I can't understand how they thought the advertising campaign they rolled with was worth a shite.

John Carter - I was excited but reviewers certainly panned it

Recently, Robocop - Wasn't bad at all

Jack Reacher is a good one, I enjoyed that as well.

Warrior.

Not a fan of those fighting / UFC movies at all. But Warrior was awesome. Great cast.

Oblivion is a good one. I thought it was a very well done sci fi thriller/action movie.

And the cast of Robocop makes me want to see it.

Step Brothers

I just knew this movie was going to suck. Now it's one of my favorite comedies of all time.

Pitch Perfect for the win.. It's bad that I know every lyric to every song and can quote the whole movie.
