Picking up a new 30" range, but the granite is only 29 1/4" across. The cheapo they have is supposed to be a 30", but its not quite. How difficult is it to get someone to cut about 3/4" on each side? Should I just give a granite contractor a call or is this something I can swing on my own?

The range doesn't rest on top of the granite?

If its the stand alone slide in type range wont the cabinets need to be modified as well?

What happens in 7-10 years when the cheapo range breaks and you replace it with one that is properly sized--and you have previously cut the granite 2" too wide to fit the cheapo range?

Can't add to the granite very easily.

I wouldnt even attempt it. Granite can crack easily. Tough call man, contractor will cost you, but they might do it right. Dont take contractors for grnanite.

A granite sales business will have qualified installers who can cut it on site.

Granite is something you sure as shite don't want to be trying to cut yourself... especially with a sawz-all.

But if you do decide to cut it with a sawz-all please Please PLEASE post the post op pics.

You would need the correct grinder setup, its not that difficult, but I wouldn't do it on my countertop without ever having done it or practicing before.

Nope. cabinets are wide enough apart. It looks a little weird to be honest. There is about 1/2" of granite overlap over the cabinets. The range is freestanding so there is no overlap on top of the granite. I could care less what happens after I leave this place in 5-7yrs... I got a great deal on a GE Cafe and i'm getting it. I'll take it with me.

What?
I bought this house with the intent on making it better and then getting rid of it. If the next home has better quality shite in it, then I'll leave the new range in it... This is the kind of shite that happens when people buy a damn electric coil range.

It's not that hard if you have a circular saw and the right blade; I would recommend that you also have a nice shop vac because a dry cut will be very dusty. From your description above, I'm surprise your cabinets doesn't have fillers on each end if there's a 1/2" overhang of granite.

Cutting granite is fairly easy, it's the polishing of the edges that can be a pita. I assume both cut ends won't be seen? They make a special portable wet saw that sprays water on the blade while cutting to keep the dust down and the blade from overheating

I hope all the windows in your single-wide are currently operating cause you gonna have a dusty mess...I would say do it yourself for amusement but I have no faith in your abilities, so call a pro and spend some of your minimum wage earnings that you are saving to have it done correctly.

Have a good day, Friend.

Use blue painters tape to make lone to follow and prevent chipping.
Get diamond blade for 4" grinder from homedepot.
Hqve someone hold shopvac behind blade to keep dust to min.
You cqn use a sponge to squeeze water in front of blade while you cut.

We just did this with a cooktop, not a range. The installer charged an extra $50 (on top of $100 base charge) to cut narrow strips off three sides of granite. Dust out the wazoo. Came out fine, though.

If it's a simple slab, can you chest it over into the Sheetrock? I had dent in my rock a bit to make my 36" range fit. I think I was more like a 1/4 off and counters are rebar filled 2" thick concrete. I know I didn't want to cut that.
