Until It Sleeps by Metallica

I still cannot figure out why people went Nuts over that song. I hated it and with a passion and still do (just came on Sirius).
Every time I hear the guitar rhythm, it sounds like they're trying to play "Push It" by Slat N Peppa. The "heaviness" of the song is forced. The video is awful. James's vocals sound as badly as ever. Metallica died on this album. I wonder what the ones who hated The Black Album think.
I am not gonna be one of those guys who says that Metallica died on the Black Album, because it may have been more commercial, but it was a great album. This song and the entire album released in 1996 was bat nuts awful. I try to understand when people like something I do not...this I cannot.
And I Just know that everyone who posts on this topic (if they do) will disagree with my assessment. I wanna know why.

I didn't know anyone liked that song. The first time I saw that video I had the exact opposite reaction of the first time I saw the video for One.

Metallica is not Tool. There's your explanation.

I went on a trip to Florida that summer and everyone was playing it -- radio, in their ice chest speaker systems, and even in clubs that played a little rock before they went in to Coolio and Snoop mode. I said it sucked then. I felt like I was Elaine in Seinfeld in the "English Patient" episode. I mean, people were getting hard over that song and I was certainly stupid not to like it.
Yes, Mizzou kills...I think I have seconded your theory (although I cannot say that Tool is still the same to me).

It was the first new Metallica song in five years, that's why people were playing it.

In other words, a band that was great from '81-'91 is considered by many to be the greatest hard rock group EVERRRRRR. Minus the Black Album, they had ONE single make it to any chart that mattered.
Not that charts or pop opinion matter to ME (I dug many 90's acts that may have never made the top 40 Alternative even), but to give Metallica such acclaim when they merely had 3 songs that got far above standard fame (One, Enter Sandman, and Unforgiven) is absurd. Yeah, I love about 20-25 of their songs, but they come from a day that Metallica has not mirrored since the late 80's.

Yeah I know. Then to follow it up with "Hero of the Day" and "King Nothing" for shite's sakes? What an awful album. Comparatively speaking (from a prior thread), at least NIN gave an album, also FIVE years later, that had some kick arse stuff on it -- reminiscent of Downward Spiral. The Black Album was leaps and bounds better than the follow-up. Sometimes, I like to think, for James's and Lars's sakes, that that album was part of a thesis/project for "How Easy It Is For a Platinum Album's Sequel to Match Its Predecessor."

Wasn't referring to either one of those.

With Teeth has more math equations and shite.

I don't hate the song to be honest, however I don't have much enthusiasm for many Metallica songs.
My top 3 from them off the top of my head:
1 - Creeping Death
2 - Call of Ktulu
3 - Sanitarium
#TeamMegadeth

I doubt it. Pretty much every Metallica fan listened to that album almost 20 years ago, had their jimmies rustled, and never gave it a second thought.
It certainly isn't their best album, nor is it a particularly good album, but there are plenty of high points on it to make it worth a listen...and unlike many albums that came out in the mid-to-late 90s, Load doesn't sound dated either.

And alien hidden languages, dude.
Also, Metallica died with And Justice for All.
Ride The Lightning is genius.
Master of Puppets a very close second.

Not my favorite but I don't hate it.

I was kind of late to the Metallica bandwagon - ...And Justice for All was probably the first.
I thought the black album got too much hate from the fanboys.
I like a lot of the tracks on Load and Reload.
I don't get the hate, just because the band got noticed by more commercial outlets.

Same here. Can't figure out why people hate the song.
