I had a guy tell me this weekend that the temperature in the river two weeks ago at Venice was 39 degrees.

Hard to believe. I did fly into St. Louis a couple of weeks ago and I was amazed at the number and size of farm ponds I saw completely frozen over. Some very large ones. St. Louis is pretty far south for so that much ice in most years.

Anyone else hear the temperature has been that cold in the river?

Definitely gets that cold.

USGS has real time stream flow data that I've seen that cold in the past.

Keep in mind that this a one point in the river. On the bank in shallow water probably 5-10 ft under the surface. If you were to take a meter and drop it center channel about 50ft it would be much cooler.

We measure river water temp every Monday for work and I think it got as low as 37 degrees.

Out of 300 hooks on a trotline last week, I only caught 15 cats. Only one had eggs. So they are still not moving up from the deep. Once the river temp gets above 50F, then they will move up.
