The wife and I are taking a vacation to Los Angeles for 3 days then taking a train down the coast to San Diego for 4. She has put me in charge of la and I'm wondering if any of you glorious folks have spent any time in LA.

Things I've planned so far.
Dodgers game
Universal studio
Venice beach

Thinking about staying near Hollywood or in Santa Monica. Thanks in advance fellas

I just stayed in Santa Monica, on the beach. I highly recommend it.

Hotel Oceana.

Haha that's what she told me. I'm not even sure how the geography lays out.

Venice beach is cool but kinda trashy. I dont know if I would spend too much time there if you only have 3 days.

May want to edit that post

I would spend VERY LITTLE time in hollywood. It's a super touristy trap. Check out venice beach, santa monica, long beach, south central, etc...

Get yourself a new map.

But seriously, I would stay in North or West Hollywood if you want to be around the entertainment stuff. Newport Beach, Malibu, etc. if you want to be around the nicer beaches.

I know San Diego much better though. La Jolla is one of the coolest towns I have ever been to.

Venice is gross.

Huntington Beach is a great town, albeit an hour away.

If you are doing Dodgers game and universal studios, stay in Universal City. There is a Hilton at Universal Studios. Skip Venice Beach and do the Santa Monica Pier. Check out the 3rd Street Promenade. Tons of places to stop in and have drinks. I love to hit up Big Mike's on the boardwalk across from the carousel. Very low key, but great to sit and have a drink and people watch. If you want to stay at the beach, stay in Santa Monica.

You can do Hollywood in a couple of hours. Just go to Graumann's and the Kodak Theater and call it a day.

Hope you have a great time.
