He didn't specify a time period, but yes, at one point, our ancestors did think the world was flat. Look a Greek Mythology. The thing that people mistake is that Columbus wanted to prove that the world is round, which is pure BS. They'd known for 2000 years that the world was round at that point.

Considering the subject is Bruno, and he lived in the middle ages, it's easy to see that time period is the one being discussed. Any argument could be made for anything, if you use.. at one point in time....

Pretty sure the Greeks discovered that the world was round, but their mythology indicates that it's flat.

Just looked it up, and Pythagoras discovered it. You've probably heard of him in math class due to the Pythagorian Theorem. He was alive around 500 BC. So yes, at the time of Columbus, people (or at least Europeans) had known that the world was round for 2000 years.

It isn't an atheist rant. Everything in it is just scientific/historical fact.
If you think these facts pose a conflict to your religious beliefs, perhaps you should reconsider those beliefs.
If you don't think they conflict, great!
If you do think they conflict, but you still don't reconsider your beliefs, you should probably have more respect for the scientific method.
I'm of the personal opinion that your beliefs and understanding of the world should always be open to change when new evidence is revealed.

bullshite. He describes a circle, not a sphere. Everyone thought from the beginning of time that the Earth was a circle, simply because if you look around on a piece of flat land or sea, then it seems circular. The Greeks and Chinese certainly thought this, but that doesn't mean that they thought the world was round and could double back on itself.
