I'm not sure what kind I want to get. I've been thinking about the Sleep Number due to it's optional settings as well as Serta memory foam. I've read on Sleep Like the Dead that the memory foam gets pretty hot though. Any suggestions?

I got the memory foam from Sam's. I like it. The only problem is my body hurts when I go out of town and sleep on a traditional mattress, now.

Memory foam does get damn hot.
Look for something with a gel top that wicks away the heat.

You need to go to a store and try them all out. What is comfortable to us may not be comfortable to you.

I recently bought a Sealy and I'm pleased so far. I don't wake up sore anymore.

Most definitely. We paid over 3k for a queen mattress at Bassett, but when my fat arse moves around on my side of the bed, my sweetie pie doesn't feel it on her side.

Yeah, my memory foam has a gel layer for heat reduction. We paid ~$600 for a king, and I couldn't tell a difference between that one and the 6g one.

We had a sleep number and hated it. Go try them out.

Where did you get a king memory foam for $600?

I have been sleeping on a variation of the sleep number mattress that is used in hilton garden inns quite a bit lately for work and like them a lot...might look into one myself when I loosen up enough to buy a new mattress...

I also think I would be very comfortable on the memory foam mattresses, but just don't want to deal with being hot all of the time...

Sam's. It's a Serta I think. Comes in a box. Takes about a year for the crease to work it's way out.

iComfort with the cooling gel beads is what Mr. and Mrs. GFunk sleep on. Memory Foam mattresses have come a long way.

Any bed can get hot and yes, I have woken up hot sometimes. But get the right sheets and you'll be fine. Memory Foam is the only way to go in my opinion. Best sleep I've ever had.

Two pieces of additional advice:

1.) Go to Sam's and buy the Memory Foam Pillows with the cooling mat. You're welcome.
2.) Whatever bed you choose, go lay down on it. Not for 2 minutes. Not for 5. At least for 10. Seriously. If your wife laughs, let her. You need to know how the damn thing feels. Give yourself enough time actually feel the bed for some time. Otherwise, you may buy a bed that feels great at first that you can't stand when you wake up.

After having normal firm box spring mattress for all my life, I decided to try something new over the past 2 years.

1. Semi-expensive Sealy Posturepedic "Plush" mattress with pillow top.

2. Highly rated "Memory Foam" mattress from Amazon, but not as expensive as Tempurpedic.

Both turned out to be busts and my back hurts. Sometimes trying new products doesn't necessarily turn out to be a good thing.

Do yourself a favor and get a "Firm" box spring mattress from Sam's club. Firm box spring mattress are tried and true.
