It's a legit scary haunted house movie. Hopefully James Wan returns to the horror genre soon

I really couldn't remember it until I watched some scenes on YouTube just now. I'll have to rewatch.

I remember it being scary but I was stoned when I saw it.

Great horror movie.

I actually watched it on a 15 hour plane ride, and I was still pulling the blanket above my eyes

"Terrible movie"

I thought it was good, not great. The special effects towards the end were overdone but the story was at least plausible given the historical context of the area the haunting occurred. Certainly better than a lot of the sillier movies recently like Mama, Insidious, and Sinister. Then again, I think The Walking Dead is dumb and don't at all get the appeal it has to so many people. I just find the evil spirit/haunted house movies like The Conjuring and Paranormal Activity more interesting than zombie movies or shows.

To be fair, im not a big fan of the genre as a whole. I think its such a shite genre overall that any movie that has basic movie qualities is considered a masterpiece next to the rest of the field

I watched it last night. Good not great IMHO. I thought the beginning worked better than the second half of the movie. The wife was freaked out afterwards though.

I love scary movies about possesion. The only movies that are kinda freaky to me. This was top 2 scariest movies I've seen. Idk how people are saying it's terrible and laughed. I

That's the way I feel about the zombie genre. It's such a ridiculous absurd concept which is why I'm amazed that it's taken so seriously with a show like The Walking Dead. I like the possession/haunted house genre of horror movies because there is an element of realism in them. There are many documented cases of possession in real life which makes those kinds of movies somewhat plausible. There have been no documented cases of killer zombies or people turning into zombies that I'm aware of. I don't think people are dumb for liking zombie movies. I just it's a little weird to laugh at or not take a possession/haunted house movie as silly and unrealistic while at the same time taking the Walking Dead as an example of a real life "zombie apocalypse".

I liked it until the moment they shower Bathsheba jump off the cabinet. When it was these images you saw in the mirror or that the kids could see it was creepy. Once I actually saw her it lost something to me.

Good point about the movie losing something showing the demon. I thought the shadow figure was effective but not the scene you mentioned and the scene where she is attacked while taking the nap. Subtle use of the unseen is always better and is what I thought the Paranormal Activity movies did really well.

I always confuse that one with insidious. I just think about Patrick Wilson playing a dad who has a demon possessing his family.

i used to be a real big fan of zombie movies but the genre is way too fricking over saturated. i hate tWD

but to respond to your comment, i never find possession movies scary b/c i don't believe in gods or spirits

i thought the conjuring was a really well made movie objectively, but it wasn't that scary. sinister had much more scary/creepy moments, but wasn't nearly on the same level of quality overall. insidious is highly overrated and part 2 fricking sucks.

Of course you do.

And who says you have to "believe in" something in order to enjoy movies about that subject? I mean shite, I don't believe in superheroes, but The Avengers was awesome. shite.

I don't really believe in possessions and that kinda shite either, but that doesn't mean I am incapable of wrapping myself in a movie and enjoying it as entertainment (which includes being scared by it).

I thought The Conjuring was pretty good. I think I've seen Insidious and liked it. Sinister was really good until the end. Same with The Devil Inside (although the last two minutes are so stupid that they completely ruin the movie). The Possession (2012) was good start to finish though. Etc.

But just because I don't believe that there are dolls possessed by demons doesn't mean I can't enjoy movies about just that.

To each his own I guess.
