Not this Monday though. Obama will be filling out his bracket. Try the 3rd Monday in April.

"The peninsula's pro-Kremlin administration later released a statement saying Strilkove had been "taken under the control of self-defence forces of Crimea". They were to protect a natural gas pumping station that had allegedly come under attack from a group of Ukrainian nationalists."

My understanding is that in terms of infrastructure, Crimea is highly dependent on Ukraine. First most of the water for agriculture are canals that divert water from the Dnieper. I imagine the gas lines all run through from the north as well as electricity. Trains come in from the north. There is the ferry at Kerch and the Russians did want to build a bridge across the Kerch Strait.
This was partly the reason Krushchev gave Crimea to Ukraine, in that it was important for central planning and resource distribution purposes.

Village is ten km from crimea. Russia will
pull back to crimea on monday and Obama
will call it a win. Or Russia gives the US the finger.

This really is right out of Hitler's playbook prior to his moves into Czechoslovakia and Poland.
Russia Says It's Received Many Requests For Protection, Will Look At Them
One day after stating that it had the right to protect its compatriots, the Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement Saturday saying that it has received many requests for protection. "Many requests have come in to Russia for appeals of protection of peaceful citizens. These requests will be looked at," read the statement.
On Friday, the Foreign Ministry said, "Russia is aware of its responsibility for the lives of compatriots and fellow citizens in Ukraine and reserves the right to take people under its protection."
The statement was issued, ironically, in response to the death of a protester in the Russian-speaking city of Donetsk who was reported to be part of a pro-Ukrainian group. Nevertheless, it signaled a Russian willingness to intervene further into Eastern Ukraine in order to defend its "compatriots."
On Saturday, Russian forces seized a natural gas facility about 10 kilometers outside Crimea, apparently marking the first time Russian troops had gone outside the peninsula.

It's hard for me to know what I would do in a situation like that... and as a disclaimer, I am not currently in charge of any countries...
BUT if I was in charge of the country, I'd like to think that I'd turn this into a shooting war with a quickness. Literally draw a line across the eastern border of Ukraine and across the Crimea isthmus. If they cross it, guns go hot. This whole business of "uncontested arrival" has to end if Ukraine really wants to be separate of Russia.
Even if Ukraine loses, which they probably will, it's hella lot harder to control hostile territory than uncontested territory.

I tend to agree. Granted the Russians only seized a small island in the area today...but the Russians are slowly but surely oozing into Ukraine. Yeah, the Ukrainians are going to get their clocks cleaned here, but it is time to start resisting or they might as well go ahead and just rejoin the soviet...errr Russian Federation.

Yeah I agree. The time to resist has come. After the illegal referendum in Crimea passes to join Russia, I think it may get hot once Russians move to remove the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine is a Russian-speaking nation and an Orthodox Christian nation, so it's in Ukraine's best interest to unite with Russia and avoid the sodomania and decadence of the EU.
They should be grateful for Russia's rescuing efforts to save them from societal degeneration.

I'm actually proud and thankful that he's doing nothing.

I'm thankful they are doing nothing, but I'm not proud about the way they are going about it.

The Russian propaganda machine is in full force. This referendum will be a joke. Apparently Russians are coming across the border to vote.
