Louisiana lawmaker threated by Monroe man over marijuana reform, state police say

A 31-year-old Monroe man is behind bars after allegedly sending an email to a Louisiana state representative threatening danger if the lawmaker didn’t support marijuana law reform.

Roy Green of Monroe said in the email he “would personally see to it that your office and livelihood are placed into danger,” unless the representative supported the marijuana legislation, Louisiana State Police said in a press release. State police received the complaint from the legislator's Baton Rouge office, and Green was arrested Thursday (March 13) on extortion charges.

Green reportedly told investigators he didn’t remember sending the email, “but that he did post the message on Facebook.” Green now faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He was booked at the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Doesn't really sound like a physical threat to me.

Just another step back towards legalization, albeit a small one. I'm sure that POLITICIAN now thinks all potheads are criminally insane and his 80 year old Pastor will say the Devil is behind the legal weed push.

Joking?

You must have a different definition of danger than I. And that he would "personally see to it" adds another dimension to it as well.

State Legislator does not equal Congressman.

Maybe just a typo on your part, but one of my pet-peeves right now is too many of our actual voting populous not knowing the difference between a State Senator and US Senator, or a State Rep. vs US Rep.

It could very well mean that he would actively campaign against the politician. In other words he would personally make efforts to make sure that the politician wasn't reelected. That's a perfectly reasonable threat for a constituent to give to a representative.

Dead serious. Sounds like he's saying he'll do everything to not get them re-elected and lead a boycott of any business they own. But that's just me.

After an objective re-read of the statement, I agree with you.

One dumbass is not the "face of LA pot legalization efforts." The liquor lobby is going to push hard against it in this state. Problem is, they mostly support Democrats. It should be entertaining.

Why are you against it, USMC? Obama was right about one thing. It's not nearly as bad for you as alcohol, and it doesn't impair you nearly as much.
