Why does Care Bears not have the same cult following as My Little Pony?

I'm watching Care Bears with my kids and the bronies thing last week had me thinking. It's basically the same crap. Schmoozy, feel good crap about friendship and caring and sharing.
Why a fetish cult around one and not the other?
Are cartoon ponies somehow more attractive than cartoon bears?
