The magical run the 1986 LSU Basketball team went on was unbelievable.....I remember watching this game like it was yesterday. I hope we can get this type of magic back soon in our program....LSU had lost all 3 meetings that season up till this point, but got the last laugh in the 4th match-up.

I was there as well as the heartbreaking loss to them in Lexington in the SEC Tourney semifinal. John Williams remains the only tourney MVP to not have played on a team in the championship game.

if we win the sec tournament and lose in the national semifinals we would finish with the same record as the '86 team. I'd be ok with that.

We beat a 6,3,2 and 1 seed in that bracket. I doubt it will be done again in my lifetime.

Probably the most amazing run by an LSU sports team in my lifetime.

Not to be a buzz kill, but wasn't that the team that was really good and then got chicken pox and lost a bunch of games they wouldn't have if healthy? So they probably would've been a much higher seed had that not occurred and it wouldn't have been so "magical". But a great team and great run, nonetheless.

I'll go to the court with those five guys today and win some ballgames! Awesome group!

Another side note to this...the first 2 rounds were played in the PMAC. I believe they beat Purdue in the first game and Memphis in the 2nd game. Then in the Regional finals, they beat Georgia Tech then the Cats.

What was going on at the end of the video, it looked like a fight was about to break out

I drove there from BR while in college, got to the arena and bought tickets on the street. I have NEVER seen an opposing team's fan base meltdown after a game like that. UK fans were PISSED "but we beat you three times" as if those earlier three games weren't barn-burners. It was a BEAUTIFUL run-Purdue, Memphis State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky a complete MURDERERS ROW.

Just looking at the free throw percentages of LSU's players on the court. Amazing.

The graphic they showed were FT percentages during the last five minutes of a game. Three were over 90% and the lowest was 80%.

That team lost Nikita Wilson to suspension. Derek Taylor was so smooth. John Williams was cool as a cucumber, and Don Redden may be one of the most underrated player LSU has ever had...

Not on Mike O'Neal's watch bro! (He's the Trooper bodyguard for Dale Brown).

RIP Big Mike Sr!

Don Redden was NOT underrated. He was very well thought of. He wasn't anywhere near as good as John Williams, though.

This...very this.

Next to the second half of 2003 & the run through the regular season in 2011, 1986's Basketball run was the most joy I've had being an LSU fan.

I've always had this question, and no one has ever been able to answer it. Abernathy got into it with the UK's asst.

Nikita became ineligible due to grades after the first semester. If he had played the entire season we would have won it all.
