The following is from the Dept. of Labor released 01/24/14. I'm just putting it out here for discussion, if warranted.

In 2013, the total number of workers in unions rose by 162,000 compared to 2012. Private sector unions grew by 281,000. However, public unions fell by 118,000. There are now more private union members than public.

Industries with the biggest growth: construction (up 95,000), hospitals, transportation and equipment manufacturing.

Sectors hit hardest - social assistance, administration and support services

Membership by gender practically remained the same - 10.5 for women, 11.9 for men

States with largest member increases - Ala.-1.5%, Neb.-1.3%, Tenn.-1.3%, Kent.-1.2%, NY-1.2%, Ill.-1.2%, Wis.-1.1%

I got these figures in a newsletter I receive. No link provided. Dept. of Labor will be your answer for a link.

I would have expected to see the opposite: increases in public sector unions and decreases in private sector ones.

Republican governors are beating the public unions arse across the northern states. You can thank Obama for the 2010 elections.

I don't love private unions but, as long as they aren't in any of my shops, I can pretend they don't exist.

Public unions should be illegal and I'm glad to see them start the lose ground.
