I don't agree with him but that's his opinion. What's really funny to me is that he believes Logan Thomas could go ahead of Mettenberger. I've seen Logan Thomas play and he might have the physical tools but he is very erratic and is more of a project than anything. Mettenberger could possibly go in the 2nd or early 3rd. McShay's main criticism of "Mettenberger is that he is not very athletic. Another argument was that this was his only good season under a NFL OC who simplified the offense. Mettenberger was also surrounded by a good OL, a stable of RBs, and great WRs." A ton Bullcrap. McShay doesn't mention that when talking about McCarron who he ranks the 4th best QB.

I say he goes late 2nd-early 3rd. His only deals are how is he going to play after the injury and his athletic ability. There were times last year when no one was open and he'd just sit in the pocket all day until he took the sack. The only thing I never liked about him is how he moved like he molasses in his arse in the pocket at times. I'd still take my chance drafting him though

Mccarron, don't get me started. Yet to earn my respect in the game. I'm not saying he's bad, what I'm saying is he had one of the easiest rides through the game you could imagine. Arguably top coach/coaching staff in the game, along with a stable of receivers and a run game to take all the pressure off the QB. Bama v LSU 2012 is where most of you found respect for him. I haven't, just a missed call on D and great call on offense. Screen pass into a blitz, come on now.

Bortles, Bridgewater, Manziel may do good in the NFL. I'd like to see what happens with Murray out of Georgia though

The "simplified the offense" bit is bull

If anything cam made it a lot more complicated because they had more than 3 plays

He also has Bortles #1 who will be Blaine Gabbert 2.0.

The NFL is moving towards more mobile QBs. Look at this year's projected top 3. Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater. While not necessarily "running" QBs, they aren't statues like ZM. Luck, RGIII, Kapernick, Wilson. All young QBs who are to varying extents mobile.

There is still a place for a guy like ZM in the NFL. Teams are always going to covet size and arm strength which can't be coached or taught. But taking off the P&G glasses, he had one good year in college that some (not me) might say was mostly because he had two outstanding WRs.

I do not believe that Mettenberger was only successful last year because of the talent level around him. I'm willing to bet that he would have done just as good on a team like. Texas Tech, Washington, etc. Those teams don't have LSU talent but their QBs can put up big numbers.

I wouldn't call Cameron's system simple. The offense LSU ran before Cameron was pretty much a hodgepodge of plays and formations. It seemed more confusing and not QB friendly.

Mettenberger's lack of mobility is a definite weakness. If he learns how to read defenses quickly, then his mobility won't be an issue. My biggest concern about Mettenberger is reading the defenses and getting the ball out quickly. A lot of his sacks happened when he held on to the ball too long.

I don't think mcshay is wrong at all if I'm being honest and not a homer.

Don't agree with all of his reasoning, but it's not ridiculous to consider Mett a mid-round prospect--especially after the injury. He's got a cannon for an arm, great size, and guts, but he's extremely immobile in the pocket, has questionable footwork, and is not the best at progressing through his reads. Maybe he was such a colossal improvement over JJ/JLee that we hyped him a bit much.

I just don't see Mettenberger dropping to the 4th round. Especially after an impressive pro day. His arm talent is top shelf. The biggest knock on Bortles is that he does not have a big time arm.

IMO, saying Logan Thomas goes ahead of Mettenberger is basically calling Mettenberger a project. McShay more than any other analyst I follow, misevaluates a ton of draftees.

Took the sack

Live to fight another day. A sack beats a turnover. I wish he would've taken three sacks in the first half against Ole Miss. LSU would've won.

True, and maybe that's what the staff taught him to do. But there was always the option to throw it away instead of losing about 5/6 yards

Being a 4th rder coming off of a torn up knee is nothing to complain about and I think that's where he'll fall as well.

I'll take the opinion of Todd McShay, who makes his living doing this, over an LSU fan that feels his QB is being underrated.

So is this a given? It'll be the reason he's taken before or after the 4th.
