Why would you be against anything that would keep a large portion of your tax base inside the parish? What happens if (most likely "when") the St. George incorporation effort fails, and more folks in the area bolt for Livingston and Ascension parishes, taking their money with them? I would think the Kipster would be all for the incorporation of this area, but that's just me.

The Kipster and his people do not want to incorporate people; they want to incorporate the Mall, BRGH, L'auberge, and other commercial enterprises.

That is obvious.

If the one BR folks were really for One BR, they would incorporate all of SG and make it one; but that's not in the cards. It just sounds good.

You beg the question that incorporation would keep people in the parish.

No one will think "well I was going to move to Ascension, but since St. George is its own city..."

People DO move for school systems, and I have always stated I am much more sympathetic toward school system change. I actually think there are a couple different things that can be down before creating an independent school district; but I am certainly in favor of doing what we can to improve schools.

If SG opens their new system, and if they do a good job, and it proves to be successful; it will generate population growth in the parish as has Zachary and I suspect Central although I haven't looked at their numbers.

But I did hear how Central is having a problem with kids "sneaking in" from outside their district to go to their schools and they are cracking down on that kind of stuff so I can imagine Central may be attracting new residents because of their schools.

The SG system might reduce white flight from the parish and kick start a mini boom in population if it succeeds.

So what you're saying is that One BR is all about money.

Your OP premise is a false dichotomy.

I hope for school change and some accountability out of all this but I'm suspect of your assumption. It's a naive to believe that ascension and Livingston could handle this mass entrance without major infrastructure problems within the school system. It's also false to believe that simply starting a new township will equate to a better education system for st George.. It will take a long time and more money than advertised to see fruition of that dream..
