Should we start the chant...SEC! SEC!
(not surprised Ohio, 1. West Virginia and Oklahoma round out the rest - 3 other states that have college football and nothing else.)

The Gallup-Healthways survey asked 176,000 respondents a large range of questions. There were several indicators for which states with low well-being largely received low scores: Residents were more likely to have unhealthy lifestyles or limited access to basic necessities.
In those states, residents were among the most likely in the nation to suffer from health problems such as high cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as obesity.

I have lived in California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and NYC (for three months). Far and away the most miserable people I was around were from Cali and NYC. Ironically, they were probably also the most intelligent as well.
The most happy people I have been around are from Louisiana, followed closely by MS.
The mindset in South LA especially is different than anywhere I have ever been. I think most people are looking to laugh, looking to have fun and looking to be happy (except when LSU is playing football - then the opposite is true).

And to think only 5 years ago we were the happiest state in the union!

What happened? 5 years of Jindal?
(i think the real difference was in the 2009 study they actually asked people if they were happy)
Pretty much everyone I know who has moved away from here wishes they hadn't had to and would move back if they could.

That's basically what I got out of it, too. Much better food in the South.

I looked up Zamoro10 on Google and it sent me to this site.
Wonder why?

No shiite. I'm not sure how "poor health habits" somehow equates to "miserable."
There is a reason why the term "fat & happy" exists.
But ... given the poll, perhaps all the enlightened but miserable liberals should strongly consider leaving the Southeast.
Just a thought.

“Times are not good here. The city (of New Orleans) is crumbling into ashes. It has been buried under a lava flood of taxes and frauds and maladministrations so that it has become only a study for archaeologists. Its condition is so bad that when I write about it, as I intend to do soon, nobody will believe I am telling the truth. But it is better to live here in sackcloth and ashes than to own the whole state of Ohio. ”

You should just vote Democrat instead.

Personally ... I don't think I'd like living in New Orleans ... but, the friends that I have in NOLA ... would never leave. Ever.

It takes some getting used to. Though I happen to live in a rare low crime area of the city so that helps us sleep better.

So, then your area is kinda like the PoliBoard then, huh ... i.e. not a lot of Democrat voters?
Just messin' with ya.
Nope ... I've spent a lot of time in NOLA ... work stuff, tourist stuff, passing through on the way to Venice to fish, Belle Chasse JRB, Jax Barracks (in a LOVELY part of town) ... love to visit ... don't think I could live there.

Here is the full list. South Carolina is 38. I don't get it...if we are so unhappy, then why are so many people moving here?

It ain't for the food ... I can damn sure promise you that.
No offense.
Granted ... I am from South LA... so a bit spoiled re: cuisine.
In serious answer to your question ... I'd say for the job opportunities ... also, I've noticed a lot of Midwest retirees relocating in the greater COLA area.
