per https://twitter.com/LarryHolder/status/443135025194622977

sez the team still wants them but is avoiding the $1.4mil cap hit on each if they were tendered.

They'll probably sign him cheaply. Doubt he has much of a market honesty.

Probably not.

But I'd like to improve that area.

Carolina makes me jealous in that regard.

only if they pickup someone named Jethro

Ya'll know that Donna Douglas (Ellie Mae Clampett) lives in Pride Louisiana? Was Miss Baton Rouge & Miss New Orleans in the 50's

...so we could sign them both and still save around ~1.5M?

Collins only played 10 snaps @PHI.

blues posted the numbers but if they sign for the minimum it costs only about 1/3 the price of the tender.

Johnson had been said before, but I figured as soon as Bush had been tendered and days passed without the others announced this would be the case.

I was also shocked Bush didn't get a 2nd round tender because he could be our starter and another team could give him something as low as $2.5m to steal him away with no compensation or we match and pay more than the tender would have been (about $2.1 or $2.2).

Edit:
Actually with the vet minimum rule each would only cost $570,000 on the cap. So about $1.1m.

...will another team give him that?

It's risky, but it's essentially risking ~.4M to possibly win ~.7M, if I'm understanding correctly.

Delmas just got 3.5M max.

LINK

There are other FB's available and there is always the possibility of finding one as an undrafted free agent.

I doubt another team gives him more but it only takes one and they know it only has to be in that range to it to make it a tough decision for us.

Austin Johnson FB 240lbs is still on the team and looked good enough last year to hang on the practice squad.

I'm more than fine rolling with Johnson. Collins sucked it up run and pass blocking last year.

I would like to retain Morgan given our current WR corp.

A. Johnson is an intriguing guy.....at least from what he showed last pre-season. He didn't look as powerful as Collins but appeared to be a lot more athletic, at least to me.

I met her once at Winn Dixie in Baker when I was a kid. My grandparents knew her. My Paw Paw was a preacher and she is/was (not sure now I live in Alaska) a pastor at a church in the Pride/Zachary area.

Small world.

Johnson had a terrible pff score in the preseason.

Really? How did it compare to Collin's pre-season score?

But he was an UDFA and showed plenty of potential. So the score doesn't scare me off to what he might be able to do.

Plus Collins had a terrible PFF score when the games mattered.

I think you and I were the first two who agreed on this when it randomly came up.

He's a serviceable FB. We run some nice fancy sneaky plays to pick up 3rd and short with him, but everyone who has watched knows we can improve on a FB being a lead blocker.
