Microsoft Excel just ignoring that I want to use a formula

have 2 cells. want to do a simple B201 - B16
write formula in cell =B201 - B16 and it just displays the formula."=B201 - B16"
i feel like im taking crazy pills over here.

Maybe don't put the spaces before and after the "-".

Try "=SUM(B201-B16)" . That and hope you didn't format the cell for text input.

Checking the cell format is important as others have indicated. Also, make sure there is no space in front of your formula.

try pointing to them. type = then click on b201 hit - and click on b16. are what ever the two cells are. if you don't get a highlighted box when you click on the first cell, there is a problem with the formatting of the cell you are putting the formula in.

Are you writing it as:
"'=B201 - B16"?
If so, then it would it would appear =B201 - B16
"'=B201 - B16"?
If so, then it would it would appear =B201 - B16

no i was clicking the cell inputting - then clicking another cell
