So I got a speeding camera ticket in a city in which I do not live and rarely visit last summer. I'm obviously not paying the ticket as I have no risk of being booted in that city.

Well they eventually turn it over to a debt collector. They contact me via mail, I repsond with a validation of debt request letter.....all standard practice.

I anticipated not hearing from them again, because with camera tickets they won't be able to produce any documents showing that I agreed to owe anyone this money. This is generally where attempts to collect these bogus debts end.

However, they just responded with a copy of the original camera ticket and claim this is the information that I requested.

What should my next move be?

You don't have to agree to owe someone money to incur a valid debt.

Own up to the fact that you broke the law.

Not that it matters, but I wasn't even driving my vehicle when the camera flashed and issued the ticket (gf was driving).

So no, I did not break the law. And that's why multiple courts have deemed these camera tickets to be invalid as there is no evidence of who's driving.

I don't know enough about the FDCPA to tell you where to go next, but usually those requests are just a prelude to a lawsuit if no response is given. I'm not sure what can occur with an insufficient response.

I would tell you that ideally you would go find a good consumer law attorney and get with him. I am unsure if you could procure one on a contingency agreement though.

Is this really worth fighting over? How much would the ticket have been if you had paid within the initial time frame?

This thread is definitely going in a different direction than the OP though it would.

Just don't respond. Unless they have served you papers, you don't have to do jack.

All these dumbasses on here think that a camera company is some authorized part of a law-enforcement agency. Same people that would turn over their Jewish neighbors to the Nazis because "it's the law". I'm actually serious about that.
