1860 semi V alumninum boat. What brand and thrust would you recommend? I thinking I'm going to go with a 12V as of now.
Update: Someone offered me a 55# saltwater minn Kota riptide for $250. What do y'all think, worth it or would it be more of a frustration?

I bought a MK Riptide ST 80 (24v) for our 19'. Wish I would have gone bigger.

If you are wanting to keep a 12 volt I'd say minn Kota edge . But I'd suggest going with a 24 volt fortrex . That's a big boat to be relying on 1 battery to keep you fishing . IMO 80 pound

Nothing will hang the red arse like a dead battery when the fish are killing it . If you have to fight wind with a 12 volt you won't have much fishing time

Yea that's alot of boat to run on 12 volts unless you don't do anything but perch jerk on calm days. You probably won't be happy with any 12 volt that I know about.

24v and as big as you can afford. I have a 16foot with a 70# and I sometime wish I had more.

Yep right up till you turn it to the side & hit the button & it throws your arse out the boat
To the OP you can always turn a 24 volt down if the power is not needed.

If you're fishing in the marsh, you're gonna need a 24v at some point.

I have a 17' aluminium and went with a 74lb MK 24v, it does great, you will have more life if you go to a small/ med 24v than if you go with a big 12v... Whatever you think is a good size, go bigger, only thing worse than not enough thrust is an underpowered outboard. Minn Kota and its not even close fwiw.
eta: go ahead and get that new 112lb fortrex

Had a 36v Riptide on my 22ft Skeeter since 2003. It finally gave out last year after all that time of HARD fishing. Not weekend warrior stuff. Running big chop and getting all banged up that thing never gave me a problem. When it finally quit, I went with motor guide because my buddy is a dealer. The piece of shite plastic head broke the first time I was in moderate chop. I was then informed I should've bought some chop protector part to keep that from happening. So basically motor guide makes their product with shitty plastic that they expect to break, so they sell another part to "protect" it.
The throttle/handle followed suit shortly thereafter and now rotates a full 360 degrees. I'm hard on shite so I expect things to break, but not within a week. You guys know how much of a pain it is to get trolling motors fixed too. I'm not leaving my boat with Dixie for two months. I'm just gonna deal with it for a couple years until I can justify buying another. It'll be a Minn Kota.
I know there are always exceptions, but that experience ruined motor guide for me.

Get the MK Fortrex and be done with it.
It has infinite speed control -- I run my 21' Bullet at a setting of about 30-35 (on a scale of 100). I've never come close to running the batteries down (Cheap Interstate Group 27 batteries that are now between 4 and 5 years old.)
These are virtually indestructible motors. The cheaper, weaker MK's may also be good, but these things are the best I've ever run
I fished club tournaments for years, the local "pro " circuit for years and have fished several of the national tournaments. For every tournament day, you can figure 3-4 practice days. The MK is a hoss.

I have a MK Edge 70 24volt...you need at least this for your boat to handle the wind...I have it on a 18' Xpress...
