So Ingram is the #1 back or will the Saints grab a RB in draft/FA

With Sproles and possibly Thomas gone, I assume this vaults Ingram into that unquestioned #1 spot.

Will the Saints stick with Cadet/Robinson as the back ups are will they try to make a move once they sign Graham to shore the position up.

Can any of the RB's on the current roster handle the receiving duties like Sproles did? Any chance Sproles comes back at a reduced rate?

we desperately need to take care of our oline issues before anything else on the team. If there is time or money left after that then we can worry about Graham. But oline and corner are more important than Graham right now.

Brees got sacked 37 times last season. 10 more timea than any other season in his career. And hit way more than that. That cannot continue. He's getting older and he needs to be protected. If we blow out cap space on Graham who can't even block without addressing oline and cb I'ma loose my fricking mind.

After we take care or oline then corner then receiver we can worry about running back.

We'll probably grab one later in the Draft or the fa

Playcalling can help the sack total.

Yes, we had 37 sacks last year, but when you look at it compared to dropbacks, the Saints were the fourth best in the league, giving up a sack on 5.3% of dropbacks. Denver was first with a 3.7% adjusted sack rate. Detroit and Cincy were second and third, at 4.5% and 5.2%. The league average was 7.0%.

What does this mean? Well, if we can get a bit more balance between run and pass while maintaining a similar sack rate, the sack count will go down. The passing game would likely be more efficient, as there would be more play action and we still have a guy who is pretty accurate throwing it. Did you know he was once on Sports Science?

All that blah blah you just said is nice. I don't care about the amount of drop back percentage. Brees got hit substantially more last season than any other point in his career. And getting more balanced sounds nice but you know Payton as well as I do, soph. He calls passes. And when the chips are down he abandons the running game. Some times he does it when the chips are up. A sure route runner could help. A speedy receiver could help. Play calling could help. But more than all that is a solid oline that can battle in the trenches. Last year our oline got bitched like an anorexic midget in a sumo contest. That shite cannot continue

Charlie Brown is gone now. When he was removed from the lineup, the OL play improved.

Upgrading from DLP (whom I like as a backup) will help.

And with improved line play, we'll see improved play calling. Think back to 2011...

Eleventy billion percent agree. We need a true center starter.

Again, agree. That's why I said the first thing we need to take care of before anything else is the oline.

I'd be estatic if we can get Jeremy Hill in the 3rd or 4th round

Khiry and Cadet are going to see more playing time. I know I'm in the minority, but the light came on for Ingram toward the end of the year. He was running like a beast. I'm hoping the newcomers will challenge him to continue that surge of energy.

I agree Breesus - improved Oline play will make it easier to run the ball, as well as protect Brees.

the cuts made so far hurt, but i'm excited to see where we go from here. and i'm good with the 3 we have, although i'm not completely sold on Cadet.

We already have two backs that run between the tackles. They will probably snag a speed/change of pace back and Jeremy Hill doesn't fit that mold.

I wouldn't underestimate Khiry Robinson. That kid showed me a lot last year and I'm expecting big things from him. His emergence - along with the the light coming for Ingram - are both likely reasons with PT and Sproles became expendable.

Have we ever had a #1 back?

I would love to see Khiry or MI develop their game more and like PT be able to block very well for Brees and to handle the screen game.

I've said over and over again for the future I would like a big bruiser of a back and a back that can make the explosive play neither of which we have yet.

Thunder and lightning part deaux.

Thank you.

The term is essentially meaningless on a team like ours.

No, he's not going to be getting as many carries as AP or Jamaal Charles.

And I agree with the guy who said not to underestimate Robinson.

I reeeealy hope KRob can expand his game outside of the tackle box and become a all around back.
We will see if the Saints believe that by who and how many backs they draft or pick up.

Yeah, I'm very interested in his development.
I really have no idea what he's capable of.

But I know he has plenty of potential.
The saints are amazing at finding impressive UDFA HBs.

I like Hill but his value would have to seriously outweigh 15 other positions for us to draft him IMO

I'm more than okay with Ingram/Robinson being the two primary backs. Used to piss me off when they'd break off a great run and then Sproles would follow it up with a loss.

Saints need to get a change of pace speed option and whether they do it in free agency (McCluster) or in the draft (Deanthony Thomas), Payton's offense dictates a need for a weapon like that.
