I watched some movie last night that was filmed both in Louisiana and New York.......which state gets the credit?

I would guess there would be some formula to share credit, but that's me speaking from a common sense standpoint and we all know there is little room for that in the law books.

Really cool.
The key is to build infrastructure (studios, post-production, etc) so that we get more out of the dollars spent here.
Once we have boxed out every state but CA, then we can bring down the subsidies some.

What's interesting to me is, doesn't it seem a lot easier and simpler to cut taxes across the board to encourage growth in the state in all sectors?
What in the frick?
Liberals and conservatives alike will admit that these programs attract growth, yet will deny it in the next breath when its labeled a simple tax cut.. Makes my head hurt.

They claim 13000 employees. The truth is 13000 names appeared on 941s during the year. That is far from full time worker BUT let's examine that number.
We spent around $200 million subsiding these companies. That is $15384.00 person. We would be better off to collect their names and simply give them $15000 apiece. Would anyone support that?
I bet you if you take out the multi million dollar payments to actors and consider all the part timers in that 13000 the $15000 want be far from the total earnings of most of the people on those 941s.
This is a "industry" of gypsy companies that need no fixed capital to speak off and can move around states like crazy. There will never be a permanent movie industry in Louisiana without tax payers subsidies.
If you proponents of this kind of welfare want to pick winners and losers how about giving the money to a real industry with brick and mortar investments and long term viability that will domicile here and actually pay taxes.
NONE of the light weights here that support these credits can make the case why we should give this industry 30+% of the expenses instead of Boeing or Google or Microsoft or even a snowball stand.
What is a shame about these numbers if the number of films that WERE NOT produced here. Even with the richest subsidies in the country we can not attract the majority of the films.
It is stupid to support these subsidies.

Tell me what not just call up Google and give them the same deal if these things are so great for the State?
We should call the moving vans and move everyone working in the industry to Georgia.
13000 people out over 1.8 million working citizens of the state and we give this industry almost $1 dollar of every $10 in income tax collections.

You would think anyone posting here that supports those film credits would have by now explained just why the film industry is entitled to the most lucrative on going government subsidies paid by the state.
You would think that one industry getting 9% of all income tax collections would register as something wrong to the densest statist in the world but nope.

This has been my favorite topic to follow. I specifically have enjoyed the board "experts" arguing about this with you only to turn around a few months later in the next thread and essentially concede all the things they argued about in the previous one.

it appears we are subsidizing $25,000 of every movie industry job that this subsidy is creating.
On the other hand, we are subsidizing around $5500 for every student currently attending a state public higher education institution.

I agree, it's foolish to give such tax breaks to the movie industry. You will never see the major studios and smaller studios and production companies based in Louisiana.
Louisiana needs to base its economy on Energy, petrochemicals, agriculture, seafood, the port facilities and potential of New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
When you consider that Minneapolis-St. Paul at the head of the Mississippi is larger and has a better economy than New Orleans which is at the mouth of the Mississippi it's mind boggling. Most cities at the Delta and end of a major river like Shanghai, Rotterdam, and Karachi are the bigger cities.
