Any recommendation on a charter out of the Orange Beach area for a May trip? 5-6 of us and would prefer to go offshore. I've googled but trust the strangers on the OB more than the rest of the internet.

I have gone out of Zekes with -

"Jamie G" which was an absolutely killer trip - 6 hours snapper pretty much, a few triggerfish and cobia (White 36' Hatteras).

I have also gone out with "Class Act" and did decent - 6 hour Snapper and a few AJ. (Light blue 52' Viking)

I'm too lazy to look. Is snapper season open then?

I have heard that "Red Eye Charters" out of Fort Morgan area are awesome too.

Their location will start you near the intersection of Mobile Bay and the Gulf, where it is a pretty short shot to the rigs, if you are interested in fishing them.

OB will obviously launch out of the bay and head south from OB Bridge.

Fished with Gary once before. He actually brings his boat over to Venice for Lump season too. Not what I'd call a sweetheart, but we did catch some fish out of Fort Morgan.

As for fishing off of Orange Beach when its not snapper season, you can sure catch a ton of trigger fish and mangroves and such. They eat great and plenty of fun, but not much size to them and it's pretty mindless fishing.

May I recommend doing an inshore charter? You can catch some nice reds, trout, and there are even some guys that specialize specifically in sharks. All of those fish are going to fight better than triggerfish and mangroves, and you'll save some money too.

That said, if you're down to ride a ways offshore, drink some beer, get some sun, catch a few fish, thats cool too! Zeke's has a fleet that can set you up. I've just sorta taken to the inshore stuff lately.

Good luck!

Would definitely consider inshore. The others may even prefer it. I usually stay inshore here in La so I'm being selfish and wanting to go out. Thanks for the info.

Fort Morgan point / Mobile Bay inshore FTW.

I liked going offshore, but dropping line straight down and pulling up snapper after snapper got old. The AJ fights were fun, but the rest was pretty monotonous.

I took an inshore charter in the pass at Orange Beach and ended up fishing the bridge with about 20 other boats. All we caught were blue drum.

I would suggest an inshore charter for the Mobile Bay / Ft. Morgan point area, Im sure TG318 will back me on this, since he lead me there last year. I was just surf fishing but it was insane (for me).

Definitely go out of mobile bay, the guys in OB are notorious for milking time in the pass catching blues. Specks/reds/tripletail out of mobile is the way to go

Haha there's a couple that are legit, one friend of a friend out of OBA is from LA and he knows what he's doing. But the majority of them are cull bucks deserving of a solid pp'ing and are better off pushin porns at p-farm

Steve at Bad Habit also guides duck hunts in the fall/winter. He wont frick you over. All the Grouper, AJ, Trigger and snapper you want. You will probably pull in a king or two along with a cobia

I've been a few times out of Pensacola, always caught, not that far from OB. Less touristy.

I have lived in Orange Beach full time for the past 12 years and have fished from her for the past 25 years.

One of the old school original fisherman of Orange Beach is Brian Annan of Gulf Rebel Charters. Then you have the Walkers. Bobby and Donny. Summer Breeze and Lady D. these are large Resmondo's that hold a lot of people. Ricky McDuffie of the Sea Hunter is one of the best, Dale Woodruff of Class Act is another good Captain.

Those are a few of the Captains that I know personally and will put you on the fish. It really depends on what you want to fish for, how long of a trip, how nice of a boat and How Much you want to spend.

If you have a specific Boat/Capt that you would like my input on please post their Boat Name and I will give you my opinion.

+1 on Steve! Like him, we kept one of our boats at Romar Harbor years back and he had his boat their at the time, nice guy and was helpful, talked fishing and duck hunting, never fished with him but have heard good things about his trips.
