Is there a way to make AT&T phone work for Verizon

I currently am out of my contract with AT&T. I have an iPhone 4S. Looking to get onto a plan that already has an existing line with Verizon. Is there anyway I can make my 4S work on the Verizon account, or will I have to switch to a Verizon phone?
The line I will be on is not eligible for an upgrade, so I can't just get a phone through Verizon.
What are my options? Outside of selling my phone and buying another Verizon phone.

If it was an iPhone 5s you could do it because they made one phone that can use all of the frequencies instead of different models. I think the 4s had different models for different carriers.

Verizon won't give you a a discount on a phone even though you are a new add-on to an existing line? Have you actually asked someone at Verizon about that? It seems to me they would have some sort of incentive to provide you with a discounted phone, as a new customer, whether you're joining an existing line or not. But I could be very wrong.

Nevermind, I think there are issues with unlocking it.

The 4s has all the required bands to be able to operate on either network, but Verizon can be a bitch about bringing an outside device to their network. Honestly, you are better off to sell the 4s and get a new phone for Verizon or see if you can swap it out on Craigslist
Is the line you have now with Verizon a smartphone plan or a dumb phone? If you are wanting to upgrade it to a smartphone plan they may be willing to discount a new or refurbished phone

Question....I have a 4S and I'm thinking I'm going to start shopping, which means I might switch to Verizon from AT&T.
So, do I just need to unlock my 4S so it will work with Verizon? What is the best DIY way to unlock an iPhone?

Going to Verizon from AT&T is a no-go. Verizon hasa whitelist of phones that you can use. Basically, if you didn't buy it from Verizon, you cannot use it. You can use a Verizon 4s on AT&T, but you must use a Gevey sim card in it.

You and the OP need to get in touch with each other.
