It's cool, I usually do the same in the FBD thread.
Was sort of reading between the lines, so maybe this is off (someone correct it if it is), but it sounds like the ATC is trying to stop the sale of anything that isn't already approved and on shelves.

I kind of wish I hadn't mentioned the atc meeting now, don't want to stop people from going to support the rural life museum

It's nothing against rural life museum, more of a problem with paying a huge cover for off the shelf beer.
Even if the cover is for a beautiful backdrop.

If you're not hanging around the homebrew area the whole time, then you're missing out.
Hope everything works out. Otherwise I have another 5 gallons of coffee vanilla porter just for me. And while that's not a bad thing, I really would like to share it.

I went the year it was an absolute cluster frick and refused to ever gt again but now thinking about giving it another shot. Im all about craft and home brew and actually in the process of aging my own whiskey. To side track this thread will any local BR/Nola home brewers send me a email on ways to get started...

There is a specific routine for homebrew offerings festivals can provide, so I dont get the impression ATC is trying to stop homebrewing from being offered to the public.
However, they have begun enforcing the no free beer rules which have been on the books forever in regards the charities. So now special events need to purchase alcohol from distributor (instead of getting free cases) and the distributor or brand can cut a check back to the charity or event for the normal wholesale price. This is the new process in a nutshell

There is a procedure, but I didnt look at it closely when getting a permit recently. I may still have it in my packet though so I'll check.

I'm glad you did...I look forward to this one and WYSE every year for the home brew tents...I homebase around the canoe and fan out from there...

The confusion, I believe, comes in where the law states a licenses retail establishment must obtain a special event permit to host homebrew events. Beer fests aren't technically licensed retail establishments, which is where the gray area is. There's also some confusion on the sale of of homebrew. Homebrew can't be sold, and a general admission fee apparently counts as a sale to ATC. We'll have a better understanding next Tuesday.

Not to keep talking about this, but there is nothing in the permit that discusses festivals at all. It only deals with bringing beer into a retail establishment. Since none of these festivals are typically held at retail establishments, the ATC is in a huge gray area.
My assumption of what they will say is that the festival cannot give us vendor wristbands for donating the beer. If I am correct on that guess, the future is going to be a hard sell to get homebrewers at these events. My keg of beer runs me like 30 bucks, and then you want me to buy a ticket for 35 dollars to come pour it for people. People in this thread are bitching about paying 35 dollars, think about paying 65+ to go.
As long as the ATC doesn't say no homebrew at all, Brasseurs will be at this years Zapp's, even if we have to pay more. We have too much invested now in the event to pass it up. It just may keep us from traveling to NOLA, Lafayette, Houma, Lake Chuck, etc in the future.

Yeah, who the hell knows anymore? It will be a hard sell if we have to pay to serve. If that happened, I'd probably make a motion in our club to forgo the event and have a club event with all our beer we've made for the festival. I'd feel bad for RLM and WYES, as they'd be the real losers in that situation.

Is there new leadership at atc that is causing all this confusion in 2014? Between this and the growler bullshite going on, has something changed to lead to all this?
