That left both Rio Grande Valley clinics dependent solely on revenue from services like pap smears and pregnancy tests for the coming weeks - a prospect that had long cast doubt on their future.

Odd. All these clinics talk about is how abortions are a small % of their "women's health" services, yet they can't even keep the doors open without them. Can anyone explain this to me?

Are Texans willing to pay more taxes to provide for social services and public schools for the increased number of kids?

I'm not in favor of abortion but if a society doesn't want to have abortions then it has to realize that most abortions are due to women feeling that they don't have the resources both financial and personal to have kids.

If you want more babies then you better be prepared to help these women.

Sure. As a percentage of revenue, procedures are what generate the most revenue for any medical proceduralist. But most of there actual time is spent doing preventative or medical exams, which bring in peanuts in comparison. He's probably have to perform almost 30 pap smears to generate the same amount of revenue that one abortion would.

So you take away his procedures, though it may only amount to a half a day per week, and he's in the red.

Pretty clear?

And please pay attention to where these clinics are. This is not inner city Houston and Dallas clinics closing down.

These are essentially MEXICAN abortion clinics, serving both Mexican Americans and Mexican citizens.

Go ahead...shut down their abortion clinics. Then bump that "reqonquista" thread from yesterday to discuss the effects of the increased birth rate. What's the average hispanic birth rate now?

ETA: 3rd clinic was in Beaumont. Those people will just drive to Houston.

This. I seriously doubt there is a line of upstanding pillars of the community waiting to abort their babies.

Proper answer to this one is......"Didn't know the bill would cause that.........didn't realize so many of these clinics were 'substandard'".

I understand that, it just seems weird to base what constitutes that majority of your business on the number of procedures performed rather than the importance of it to your business or the income percentage.

Yea, we should keep abortion clinics open to cut down on the birthrate of illegals, great idea!

OR..

we could just stop them from casually walking across the border to come get treatment here!

It is my understanding the only clinics being forced to stop abortion procedures are NOT within a certain distance of a hospital. Do you really think a woman is going to have a baby instead of getting an abortion because she might have to drive an additional 50 miles to get the procedure?

This is how you try and rationalize killing children? Pathetic!
You act as if the only alternative for these women is abortion yet you fail to mention personal responsibility and doing things in advance to prevent unwanted pregnancies!

Fallacy. If I want non-violent drug offenders released from prison, does that mean I need to be prepared to provide treatment to them?

I'm not even totally against abortion, but I'm not about to pretend that the pro-lifers somehow incur an obligation simply for advocating a fetus not be killed.

Don't care about "so far", aren't we talking about going forward?
