How old do you think my boy needs to be until I take him to see movie in theater?

I know it is not exact science. He turned two in December and sits through Nemo and Toy Story. But they are familiar to him. I want to take him to see Frozen but worry I will be that dad with kid that can't be quiet.

Every kid is different, but I can't imagine taking my two year old into a theater.

It's not age. It's maturity. If he can sit still and quiet for the length of the movie then take him. If he can't then don't

Thanks for participating.

I knew this was a lost cause. As already stated, he sits through two Pixar films quite often. However, they are in the friendly confines of our house and he is familiar with the story. Thus, I thought I would lean on other parent's experiences for guidance.

Frozen came out before Christmas. I would assume it will be available for home consumption soon enough.

Valid point. I was just thinking that Frozen could be trial run.

Frozen comes out March 18, but by all means go see it at the theater if you want. I believe my daughter was 2 when she went to her first. It was Beauty and Beast when they brought it back out. Other than just swapping from my lap to my wife's lap a couple of times that was pretty much it. My nephew is 3 though and we really still can't take him to watch a movie. So like others said it really just depends on your kid. I say go for it. It is a kids show so it's not really like people in there can really expect total silence. If you choose Frozen it will probably not be very crowded any how since most people have probably seen it.

One of my kids could sit through movies before she was two. The other one is six and still kind of unpredictable.
Worse case scenerio you walk out.

Really depends on the movie and the kid.

Took my kids (3 and 1.5) to see Shrek 2 in the theater and they loved it (kept their attention and they behaved). However, they were bored with Home on the Range about 15 minutes in and started wandering (and that came out about a month before). Saw The Incredibles later in the year and they were mesmerized.

That was kind of my thought. If we have to leave after 20 minutes it is not the end of the world

I took my little one when he was two. He sat on my lap some of the times, but he was okay. What I did the first couple of items was to go during an early show when attendance was at a minimum. It seemed to work out and he eventually got used to going watch movies and learning how to behave (almost) perfectly going forward.

Related story... when he was 3 or so, he saw the previews for African Cats and really wanted to see it. I took him one afternoon when I was off and there were literally like 3 or 4 other people in the theater. At one point, he got kinda scared so I put him in my lap. During the scenes with the cheetah mother losing her cubs, I heard a *sniff* *sniff* and then felt tears on my arms. We went play video games in the lobby after that!

Damn. That's pretty cool of a story. Kids always end up surprising me. One of the reasons I want to be a pediatrician.

We were taking our daughter at 3. There's an older theater about a mile and a half from our house, that shows the movies just out of normal theaters but not yet on DVD. Admission is a Dollar. We figured we're out 3 bucks if we have to leave. It is a hotspot for parents with young kids all with the same idea. No one really minds, since they're all kids movies, if other kids start crying or talking. I've actually gone to see a few adult movies there when I was bored one day. And they sell a tub of popcorn for like $15 or $20 and you can bring the plastic tub back in all year and get a cheap refill, like $5. We just bring our own drinks in and end up paying less than $10 for the family to see a movie and have popcorn.

I take my 3 year old and 4 month old to movies all the time. I have no issues.

I get there early so I'm the first in the theatre. I choose seats on the aisle so that I can quickly exit if needed, or seats on the aisle on the very back row if at a non-stadium seating theatre. Works perfectly.

If I were to open a theater, I'd probably ban kids under 5 from attending it.

Could you make up the lost revenue on Disney/Pixar/Kids movies with an adult only crowd? Those movies are packed out.

I guess if you had one of those fancy theaters that serves alcohol you could. There's a nice one near here that does this.
