I'm trying to research financial advisors and would like some personal recommendations to start from. Does anyone use a financial advisor that they would highly recommend. Just looking for someone to give a little guidance and help with my investment strategies.

I don't have a million dollars but a pretty good amount that I'm looking to do something with.

Thanks

Are you looking for someone to actively manage your money? Do you need loan/banking services? Insurance coverage?

Financial advisor is a pretty broad field these days with a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing.

Pretty much this. Mostly salespeople in the field (that I know anyway).

I'm not at all equipped with the certifications, but I'll do a fee only advisory for you.

Yeah I hear you. Don't need any banking services. Mostly I have some money sitting in savings
That I need to do something with. I don't need anyone to actively control my money. Just someone to discuss strategies with.
Ex:
college funds for kids
Retirement planning
Investment in mutual funds and stocks

Do you have a CPA that you use for your taxes? If so, maybe start with that person. It sounds like you don't really need a financial advisor, you just need someone to bounce ideas off with.

Another option would be to find a fee-only financial advisor and pay them for a few hours of consultation. Every couple of years, check back in with them and they can update your "plan."

Problem is it is hard to find people to do that... everyone these days just wants to manage your money.

Are you looking for specific investment advice, or just more "how much should I save, how should I allocate it" type stuff?

I honestly do just want someone to bounce ideas off of and to ensure that I'm not overlooking anything that or should be doing. And like u said not looking for anyone to take over my money for me.
I'm moderately financially savvy but never been comfortable enough to actually take the plunge and invest my money like I know I should be. I want to make sure that I'm making smart decisions when it comes to things like :
I plan on buying a new house in 2-3 years, but the $ is sitting is savings - what are some options to do with that $ as opposed to more long term investments.

The fee for service option is intriguing, just wanna make sure I end up with someone trustworthy.
Thank you all for the feedback...much appreciated.

Stick with fee based only. I would highly recommend going the extra mile and go RIA only if you elect to pay for advise. It honestly sounds liks your CPA is a good place to start. They can make sure you are taking care of your broad based needs...HSA... 529 start plan.
