A few weeks ago I was in a fender bender with minor damage and no injuries and I received a ticket for improper lane usage. I called today to pay the ticket and I was told it is a mandatory court appearance. She said that the computer told her it was an accident with injury and that's all she does is reads what the computer screen says. Is this the norm for this type of ticket? How much is this court appearance gonna cost?

Happened in Kenner fwiw.

Pretty common in a lot of places that accident=court appearance. It is stupid, but it's a common rule.

FWIW in my experience the cost of a guilty plea is usually pretty similar to the standard fine. I had the same situation (albeit in another state) a few weeks ago, and I had to pay about 15 bucks more than the normal fine for those who don't have to appear.

Yea, you gotta go to court. Plead no contest and pay the fine.

Wat? I've never heard of a mandatory appearance for any ticket for a moving violation.

Gotta go because its attached to an accident, if it was just a ticket you could just pay it.

have to show up because of accident. before you go to court, get a letter from your insurance company saying that they are handling any claims. that way they know the insurance card you showed the cop was legit. ask if they can dismiss ticket since it is being handled by insurance.

What's better, pleasing guilty or no contest? What if the cop doesn't show up, does it get dropped?

Screw it. Go balls to the wall. Hire a first class attorney and come ready with stacks of case briefs and expert testimony. The judge will be absolutely dumbfounded

Sounds like you are getting sued for personal injury. Happened to me once in a minor accident. Dude was just fine at the scene but somehow ended up with catastrophic damage to his spine. First hearing before magistrate the "victim" didn't show for some reason and his ambulance chasing attorney had it re-scheduled. A month later, at the second hearing, the "victim" was in jail. Waited to be notified of a 3rd scheduled hearing and then my insurances attorney told me the case had been dropped.

I felt fine at the time but that night my back seized up and the next day the doctor told me my back is broken and I'll be on disability for life. I'm suing you.

No contest. Can't be used in a civil suit that way.

The cop won't be there unless you request a trial. Then you'll go back on another date.
