I finally watched it.

I swear I'm not trying to troll or anything but holy crap....I do not get how this film has become cult favorite. I guess it's supposed to be a comedy, but the only time I cracked a smile was when Donny's ashes blew back on Jeff Bridges...and even that scene you could see a mile coming.

This effort by the Coen Brothers is weak imho....just a bunch of eccentric characters in a lame and unoriginal kidnapping storyline. I imagine that had I seen it when it came out in 98 when I was much younger, "maybe" I would have thought it was entertaining....but to watch it now, it's just barely entertaining and only good for one the one watch...and hardly that. I really wanted to like it....while I didn't hate it, I could have easily done without seeing it.

This is the ultimate "repeated viewings" movie. I didn't quite get it the first time either. All I can say is watch it again, don't worry about the plot, and just enjoy the absurdity of the characters. If you still don't like it, it's not for you.

Oh, and I don't see how you can call it unoriginal. What is it derivative of?

I guess man. I came close to turning off about a dozen times but I made up my mind to give a shot and watch it all the way through. I swear had I turned it off, I wouldn't have missed anything....just an incredibly average film. The whole "shut the frick up Donny".....white russian "caucasian" schtick...."the dude"....just lame. Even the Jesus character....when he appeared I'm like cool, finally something funny and/or entertaining......I was wrong.

That's one of the few parts that wasn't that funny.

If you didn't laugh at all during any of Walter's rants, well, IDK what to tell you.

This. I remember watching it for the first time and thinking "Theres two hours I'll never get back." The comedy in the film really is character driven. Every time I watch it, I find myself focusing on a different one and picking up the little absurdities of the entire story.

If you think about it, the only normal person in the movie is Donnie.

It is extremely quotable and the non-verbal acting is brilliant. Heck, the verbal acting is brilliant.

Goodman has one of his best performances, and Turturro and Hoffman extract every possible nuance from their limited lines.

I can see how it is not everyone's cup of tea, but I find the movie rarely misses a beat.

In the opening fricking scene he writes a check for $0.69.

How is that not fricking hilarious. You really need to pay attention next time you watch it.

It's ok. It wasn't meant for you. I'm sure someone is making a movie with explosions as we speak.
