Texas folks. Time to pick my power provider.

Currently with champion and I'm searching for the best deal. If I go 6 months, that'll get me over the high priced summer rates. Am I wrong? Is it better to go month to month? 3,6 or 12 months? Please advise TIA.
For those who don't know, you can pick from a very long list of electricity suppliers. It's actually pretty sweet unlike being stuck with entergy all the time.

whichever you choose, watch out for the mandatory fees. Those will wipe out any cost/KWH advantage a cheap hourly rate may give you.

i'm on the road down in Harlingen but there's a website out there you should look at.
I think it's powertochoose.org
don't quote me on it though.

Yeah, just use powertochoose. Be careful and look at what you normal kwh used is. A lot of them have another fee if you drop below 1000 kwh, some don't.

I switched from Reliant to Stream Energy about 2 years ago and cut my bill in half. Haven't had any issues with them.

I might can get you a good deal for champion. Through my employer, we are getting like 0.067/kWh with an actual of $0.11263/kWh. I think that I can get a code that extends that to you (and I think $25 off a bill for the both of us). email my screenname at gmail if interested, and I will check it out.
I have used Champion since I moved to houston, so I can't compare to the other companies, but I have never had a problem and the 2 or 3 times my power has gone out it was back relatively quickly
ETA: It might not work since you are already a champion subscriber.

I use Champion and have a 12 month. It gets looked at again every 12 months and usually it's pretty spot on. I think ours runs out in August and last year the difference was only $100 or so that I had to pay for the difference. We have a decent sized house with a pool and monthly average is $130-ish.
I have no complaints about Champion whatsoever. Reliant however....I had them years ago and they suck hard. Never had Gexa or any of the others.

Just curious, to all the Gexa users, what type of rates are y'all paying? TIA.

Yes, we get to shop our provider and its wonderful...had txu for years, shopped around, went with another provider and won't even entertain an offer from txu

Make sure to look on powertochoose (I'm referring to the OP) and look at their complaint rating. 1 is the worst and has the highest complaints. You can sort/filter out which ones you don't want to see in your results. I recommend only looking at 4's and 5's.
If you do that you'll see all of the names in this thread that people have recommended.

Here in Ms I ended up with Entergy. They gave me the best rate per KWH. Also guaranteed to repair my service in event of a storm. They were my #1 choice as the others didn't come close to comparing. The other pretty much didn't offer any service at all because they don't exist.
eta: 0.13 per kwh

Sorry... just checked the bill. We are locked in at $.0625. Better than I thought!

Another little known fact (or maybe not)...you can lock in a new rate within a 60 day window of your plan expiring. So, if you have an expiration during the summer you can lock in a rate in the spring.
