Honestly there isn't much Obama can do at this point. Many have made analogies to chess. Our opportunity for effective diplomacy was many moves ago. With Putin claiming the overthrown president as the legal authority for Ukraine, he isn't going to back down easily.

Behind the scenes align strength vs weakness. Russia's weakness is its economy. Garner EU support (not an easy task considering Obama's current standing with EU leaders). The pressure point within Russia's economic weakness is disproportionate influence of Putin's oligarch cronies. Target every one of them. Freeze their assets. Suspend their visas. That could be done very quickly. If unsuccessful, dismiss Russia from the G8, and implement broader sanctions.

Not only should we cancel the G8 summit but we should move to kick them out of the G8.
Lastely and MOST important we APPROVE Keystone and ramp up domestic production of Natural Gas and Oil so we can export energy (along with Canada) in case this thug tries to cut off energy to Western Europe and former satellites...this is obviously a long term solution but takes political will power which I doubt this admistration has

Are the Ukrainians willing to shoot to defend their homeland? I don't know. Maybe someone in this thread does know. I would want to know that first before I planned any action. Are they willing to die to save their country?
