In the last 25 years or so, has it snowed in Louisiana during April?

All winter my grandmother has been talking about "the big April snows" that we have received over the years. Has there ever been any that you can remember? I am nearly 37 and do not remember any. I tried Google...

It snowed in South MS (Ocean Springs/Biloxi) in March or April back in 1993 or so.
Can't remember exactly, but it was a late snowfall.
Looks like March 1993

Around BR, I don't think so but it was right about 25 years ago when it snowed in mid-late March.

It snowed in North Louisana (Webster Parish) in April around '92. Still have the Polaroid picture of the big snowman in our front yard and I want to say the date was April 6, 1992

Was it an early morning snow that melted by 11 or 12? I remember something like that in 93/94, but she is claiming inches on the ground. I don't remember anything in April.

OK, March of 93 we had flurries from a storm that crippled Bama,Tennessee, and the Carolinas....but still, anything in April of a significant amount?

Don't know about April, but when it snows in Baton Rouge we get hurricanes.
It snowed before Katrina, Gustav, and Ike.

FYI that March snow that everybody is referring to was on March 12 1993.

It snowed in south Louisiana once in march during the mid 90s.
I remember it because it snowed during my birthday party which was supposed to be outside but had to be moved indoors due to the weather. It's never snowed in april.

You don't remember Winter Storm 93?

I tend to agree with you. I don't think it has ever snowed in April!
She is hell bent on proving it, though! She has been looking for pictures to prove it!
FYI, I am not being mean to my grandmother. I just told her once that I don't think it has ever snowed in April...that is all.

That is about 3 or 4 hours NW of BR, right? Close to Shreveport? That area gets snow more often than BR.

Coincidentally, this was posted on Crown Weather's FB page yestarday.

3/2/2014 - 9:05 am ET/8:05 am CT: We are 3 months away from the start of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season (Yes, spring and summer will get here eventually).
I do think we will have a weak to moderate El Nino during the Hurricane season which will likely produce above average wind shear across much of the Atlantic. I do think we will see a “slow season” in terms of the number of storms. We have to be careful with this declaration because the United States and the Caribbean have been impacted significantly by tropical storms and hurricanes even during a slow season.
An interesting correlation I have found is that the northwestern and northern Gulf Coast has experienced a top 10 cold winter. There are strong correlations between cold winters and landfalling tropical cyclones. The top 9 cold winters across the northern and northwestern Gulf coast are: 1976-77, 1898-99, 1972-73, 2000-01, 1983-84, 1904-05, 1911-12, 1929-30, 1978-79. All of these top 9 winters had at least one tropical storm or hurricane landfall in the United States or the Caribbean. Three of these seasons had a major hurricane landfall (1899, 1984 and 1979). The winter of 2013-2014 will go down as a top 10 cold winter, so we will have to see if this strong correlation will continue.

This seems likely every year.

Yeah, it's gotta be at least a 70% chance that a hurricane makes landfall in the US or caribbean every year.
