I'm confused. I feel like he's acting as if this is 200 years ago, where if a country could occupy another country by force, it becomes theirs. It's odd that he's just completely ignoring the repercussions of other nations/UN/NATO etc.

Where does he expect this to end?

for me....watching the Ukraine fall into Russian hands is equivalent to watching a mosquito hawk snatch a mosquito in mid flight.

He wants some control over Crimea and the East and to make sure Kiev considers Russian interests going forward, but not a take over of the country.

But he's a thug Mafioso at the top of a kleptocracy so who knows...he may just poison the entire Ukrainian government.

IMO, he's already accomplishing it.

He's debasing American global strength and standing at every turn by continually exposing what a team of absolute fricking amateurs we have running things here.

He will still move to take over the slice of Ukraine along Russia's western border that is primarily populated by ethnic Russians. That area also happens to be the industrial/manufacturing area of Ukraine....steel manufacturing mills, large equipment manufacturers, etc.

If he's like most Russians we don't know his end move yet and it will be something no one predicted.

Does the word "Sudetenland" ring any bells.

And in our corner...Neville Chamberlain 2.0.

This gives John Kerry another opportunity to use his "gravely concerned" face.

Seems like also Putin wants control of natural gas lines feeding into Europe. Prior to the LNG train startups around the world along with the shale gas output in North America Russia was dominating the European gas market. Russia was in a position to set the price for much of Europe. With less control over gas supply now it seems like Ukraine would be a strategic target for Gazprom. I also saw where the Ukraine owes Gazprom over 3 Billion in back gas payments as it is, and Russian banks are owed the money.

And what "repercussions" would that be? A stern finger wagging?
