quote:

A Douglas County elementary school principal has been arrested and charged with trying to have sex with a child.

John McGill was one of 14 people arrested in an undercover investigation conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. McGill was charged under the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999.

McGill, and the others, traveled with the intent to meet a child for sex, the GBI said in a statement.

Happened in Dallas a few months back.

I didn't see it in the article, when they say "child" do they mean like a legit kid or a 16 year old on the internet?

Of course I'm not condoning the latter, but it makes a difference in my level of revulsion.

Age was not mentioned in any of the articles I saw. You'd think with all the stings they have these types of people would be smarter. Sick and stupid I guess are not a good combination.

I only mention it because I once worked a case where something like this (internet chat sting) was one of the underlying issues. So we ended up having to review the transcripts.

Holy shite. I expected some total perv luring in the police officer pretending to be the girl, but it wasn't like that at all. The stuff the "girl" said made me blush, it was beyond porn-like.

Don't get me wrong, the guy was a total loser, but he was more of a sad douche than a real predator. Of course, I think any principal wrapped up in something like this should get hammered.

I understood why you were asking, just commenting that none of the articles I saw mentioned how old the person they were meeting up was supposed to be.

I saw where he was either already fired or suspended until the investigation is completed.

16 year old

age of consent in Georgia (but there is a teacher-student exception of some sort).

eta: this was under the Computer Porn/Child Exploitation Act of 1999, which defines a child as person under 16.

I'm reading the statute now--this is interesting

quote:

(2) 'Identifiable child' means a person:
(A) Who was a child at the time the visual depiction was created, adapted, or modified or whose image as a child was used in creating, adapting, or modifying the visual depiction; and
(B) Who is recognizable as an actual person by the person's face, likeness, or other distinguishing characteristic, such as a unique birthmark or other recognizable feature or by electronic or scientific means as may be available.

Just caught that he was principal at an elementary school. That's pretty disturbing if this turns out to be a younger person he was soliciting.

And I think married with 5 or 6 kids. Just don't get these types of people. And what are the chances this is just his first time getting caught and not his first time doing this.

Must have been a decent size sting as the article I saw listed 10 to 15 people that were caught.

Maybe he was going to pick the child up and protect her from doing this stuff in the future....

Innocent until proven guilty?

Actually, NO, frick that. This dude should fry. Screw any adult 18+ that does anything to a child 14 or younger. They should all be shot.

Probably not one age, per se. The police probably assumed several identities of minors of various ages.

To me that would certainly hone in on the worst predators (people making multiple solicitations of minors), but I don't think that is always the case.
