My base airport airline, United is closing their hub here. Now I will have to make connections, where in the past I was able to fly direct to most of my frequent destinations. If I have to connect I am looking at different airlines.

My question is this. If you have Medallion Gold status how often are you upgraded to FC. 50%, 20%, never?? Most of my travel is domestic.

TIA

I would say that it will vary wildly by route. Where is your base city and where do you mainly travel?

Yep. With the United/Continental merger two years ago, I saw this coming. The bad part is, I could take an early morning direct flight and be on the ground by 9/10am and get a full day of meetings in. Now with connections it is going to cost me a full day of productivity coming and going. :banghead: Not to mention having to deal with O'Hare, Newark or ATL if i switch to Delta. Although I don't mind ATL in comparison to the others.

I would think you would get upgraded pretty frequently on most of these.

Also, you didn't mention it in the OP but did you know that Delta has a status match program?

Less than 20%. The upgrades are almost always used up by the Diamond and Platinum level members.

20% may be generous. Especially factoring in how many domestic flights are on CRJ's.

Depends on the route and the time of flight. I go to Savannah a lot and I would put the % chance of an upgrade around 75%. However Wilmington is about 25%.

No question this will be the case out of ATL. Pretty much the same with United out of their larger hubs. However, I would get upgraded out of CLE with United about 50% of the time, when not on a smaller regional jet without a FC cabin, which was about 60% of the time.

I could squeeze in 20 extra segments yearly to reach platinum and used to do it in my younger days. With the connections, with either United or Delta, I can see myself making Platinum this year with same travel schedule.

That's why I wrote "less than" 20%.

Really depends on the route and time of day. I got upgraded tomorrow on a 4:30 flight from ATL to BWI, a couple of weeks ago from LAX to ATL and I am only silver. But those are 2 rare examples, I usually live in the exit row. Route, the day of the week, and time of day will play a huge factor.

How often did you get upgraded with United?

I've had status for almost a year and have only been upgraded once to FC, just because the flight was 40% full

Definitely this. Early morning flights on Monday business centers (houston, atlanta, NY,Boston,Washington almost never. Tuesday morning these same locations 30% of time. But to tourist destinations, Orlando, Vegas, New Orleans, San Juan PR, has to be over 70%.

You can pretty much forget about Raleigh. It's a very heavy medallion flight due to the triangle. I am platinum and I get upgraded maybe 20%.

Platinum is about 75% on domestic, nothing except E comfort international.
