Man still working out after 106th birthday

NAPLES, FL (WINK/CBS) - A man whose doctors recommended he started working out at age 100 is still going strong six years later.

Employees at Planet Fitness threw Francis Smith a special celebration Friday for his 106th birthday.

Although he has not been able to work out for the past few weeks due to an unknown incident, he didn't hesitate when asked if he still enjoys coming to the gym.

"Yes indeed, and the doctor insists on it," Smith said.

With his 79-year-old wife by his side, Smith blew out the candles to his cake and got fed plenty of well wishes.

Ken Small, Planet Fitness manager, said members are excited to have him around.

"When new people sign up they always ask about him, 'Who is he?'" Small said. "He's here all the time, and everyone just gravitates towards him."

Smith had some words of advice for a life of longevity.

"The most important thing is to take each day as it comes," he said. "Enjoy it, don't fight it."LINK
