Seemed like a Mission to Mars scene expanded to 1.5 hours. Probably should have watched it Imax 3d.

It's the one film I can say that you can't make a fair assessment on unless you saw it on the big screen in 3D

No, because Avatar was a movie that sought to manipulate its audience as much and as cheaply as possible and also launch a new industry and make Hollywood tens if billions. James Cameron's last thought it making that film was making a truly good movie.

If it wins best picture it will be the biggest travesty since Shakespeare In Love beat Saving Private Ryan.

I would almost go as far as calling it terrible.

Yeah Alfonso is a fine director (no homo), but he should stick to directing and let writers handle the whole story part of a movie. He wrote the movie and it shows. Some people can write and direct. Some people can only write or direct. He's one of those people.

See this tells me the movie is a failure. Not a total failure, but if your response to someone saying the movie is bad is that they had to see it in imax 3D to truly appreciate it, the movie earns at best a 50% grade out of 100. Ive said this before, but movies are more than pretty pictures strung together. Or they should be. If the story sucks, and the only retort is, "But it's so pretty!" the movie fails.

It's not.

The story doesn't suck, it's just straight forward. There's obviously a focus on the visuals...which look better on a big screen, the way it was meant to be seen. A sci-fi movie that plays equally well on TV as it does on a huge screen probably isn't a great sci-fi movie.

Yeah it kinda does.

I mean it is saying something about the state of writing in Hollywood when the zombie shuffle character development that Bollock's character goes through is noted in a very positive way. Especially when it is cited as the strength of the film.

I suppose one thing that sticks in my craw was how they went on and on about realistic portrayal about space, to the point that they drove away actors because the technology they used to simulate it realistically allowed for zero on set improvisation.

Once you do stuff like that you set higher standards for me with disbelief.

And yet, the primary threat of the film can't really happen as described. Furthermore, the progression of the story from place to place can't happen in reality either.

I thought it was decent. It did tend to drag at points. Disclaimer: I did not see it in 3D.

I'm not a big sci-fi guy, so I prefer some grandeur to my space fare.

Guess I'm fortunate to not have those standards.

Armageddon wasn't realistic, but it sure was fun.

Eta...I didn't say the story of Gravity was great, or even good, just saying it didn't suck. Thought it was an average storyline elevated by the talent that made it.

There was a pretty long thread when the movie came out where Freaux and OML told me how wrong I was for saying the movie sucked arse. Apparently if the visuals on an IMAX 3D theater as awesome that means the movie itself is awesome.

This movie sucked dick and the only redeeming quality is the excellent visuals, which are enhanced in IMAX. There is no reason whatsoever to ever buy this movie or watch it at home.

The movie sucked. Period. Anyone who thinks this movie has some grand story and deep subtext out way too much thought into it. IMO of course.
