NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Jrue Holiday underwent a successful surgery to correct a stress fracture in his right tibia. He will miss the remainder of the season.
In 34 games played for the Pelicans this season, Holiday has averaged 14.3 points, 7.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 33.6 minutes. He last appeared for New Orleans on January 8th, 2014 and has missed the ensuing 23 games.

I hope they didn't cut it off

Is it funny to anyone else that they wait 8 weeks or however long to decide to have surgery? Why wait so long? Pelicans orthopedics?

I can see doctors hoping it would heal on its own, but 8 weeks seems about as cautious as they were when they were tanking.

quote:Well the wording in that press release never said specifically when he had the surgery. Wouldn't be surprising if he had the surgery weeks ago. Even we knew he wasn't coming back.

They need to go ahead and quit stalling on Anderson as well. Everybody knows he's not coming back this year.

Damn, so he is going to miss almost as much time as Noel?

Jimmy Smith calling out the team for the lack of injury info.

That Holiday had been absent from the team for several weeks prior to returning briefly last week, then mysteriously departing again at the beginning of the week, was a clear indication that he was likely about to undergo a procedure to correct the damage.

I really don't get why they are so secretive about it. Why the Saints do it makes total sense, the game planning economics are totally different in basketball though.

Yeah, I don't get it either.
I had to look it up, but I remembered hearing a player was going to miss the rest of the season with the same injury as Jrue, a few weeks ago. Turns out it was Javale Mcgee. His injury happened in this first few weeks of the season and he didn't officially have the surgery until a week or two ago. So in this instance, I can see the Pelicans waiting as long as possible to see if it would heal on its own. Seems thats what Denver did with Mcgee as well. Don't want to wait too long and have it affect his availability next year.
Anderson is an entirely different issue though. The guy was in the hospital for days with no info from the team. There still hasn't been much. The most we got came from Anderson, himself, during that in-game interview he did where he made his situation sound much worse than the team was letting on. There's really no reason at this point for them to be pretending like he might come back this year.

After hearing nothing but BS from the team we got this dropped on us from Anderson himself:
The "optimistic" result here seems to be the Peyton Manning surgery. Just career threatening. Nothing from the team about...
quote:No bid deal. Just a potentially life changing injury. No need for the team to let the fans in on.
"Obviously, I want to get back as soon as possible, but this is something that if I got hit again, it could be more than just career ending. I want to be careful about it," Anderson said, speaking publicly Monday night about his injury for the first time since it occurred in a collision with Bostons Gerald Wallace on Jan. 3. "Were going to find out pretty soon how its healing and depending on if its healing on its own, then well just keep going with that. But if not, well do the surgery."
via Pelicans Anderson unsure if hell need surgery.
The surgery would be similar to what Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning went through, according to Anderson. LINK

Usually stress fractures heal themselves. This looks pretty serious if they have to do an operation. Usually an operation for this kind of thing entails putting a support rod/plate in leg?
