Lundy, a more than 10-year veteran of TCSO, had been having back problems, causing him not to wear the vest, his wife, Kelly Lundy, said.


“He knew that he did not have one,” Kelly said. “He was brave enough to stand up and do that.”


Lundy, 32, shot and killed 51-year-old Timberland employee Earl Edward Clague Jr., who crashed through the front of the store in his black Nissan truck and opened fire.
Lundy, along with two other employees, were shot as a result of the gunfire. Today, Lundy is hailed as a hero who saved lives with his actions.


“Everyone’s calling him a hero and I’ve always known that,” Kelly said. “I’m just grateful that he is going to survive this and get to know how much he is loved, and what he had done, and the lives he has impacted.”


Kelly said her husband is at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital in Perry, where he is hooked up to a breathing tube and is in a medically induced coma.
