live music for mardi gras

Anyone know of any uptown bars that are set to have some good live bands this weekend? For instance Flow Tribe played at the boot last year so that was cool. Not talking concerts at HOB type places. Thanks.

Not Uptown, but the Howlin Wolf has free shows all weekend. Rebirth on Fri and Sat and DumpstaFunk on Sunday and George Porter Jr on Monday.

Yea, I shouldn't have been as limited as uptown. That sounds awesome.

Is Tipitinas a house if blues type place? Galactic is playing there Saturday and Monday night.

Tipitinas is one of the finest music venues in the country.
If you haven't been, then seeing Galactic on Mardi Gras weekend is a great first show. Saturday still has tickets

It's better. One of my favorite places in the city. When they opened the doors this past saturday for the RR show a guy came out and said no smoking tobacco inside. And people follow the rules.

I love the not tobacco rules around here. At HOB, we were smoking a join and the bouncer came up and made sure it wasn't tobacco and gave it back to us.

I've yet to see Shorty in a club setting, only festivals...Dumb question, but is a club setting worth seeing after I've seen him around 5 time before?

I like shorty better than galactic personally. I've only seen him about 5 times, and one of my friends always tells me that shorty's sets are always the same. I don't have his cd's or listen to him not in person so I never really notice what is what.

I tried to pull an all nighter a few years ago and hit up Galactic then go to Zulu after the show. I failed.
